So the other day I bought a nice slab of Temperfoam to throw on top of my mattress, and took the opportunity to throw the pillow top and a couple pillows in the wash. One of the pillows has some nasty, icky sweat stains on it -it's pretty much the color of the background of these boards! I washed it like 3 times, using a bunch of "Shout!", and Borax, in addition to detergent, but the sweat stains didn't shift! I've gotten them out before by using Clorox (or "No-worry" as my late grandmother would've called it) but this particular pillow comes with a warning not to bleach it! Is there a way to get these stains out? Thanks Guys!

The exact same thing happened to me recently, and I used chlorine bleach in the wash anyway.

They came out fine, with no problems.

I got rid of the stains of my pillow covers washing them in hot water, one scoop regular powder Tide and three full scoops of Oxiclean, plus one Tbs of STPP, I let them soak during 45 minutes with a double rinse (I have a Maytag TL). They came out perfectly clean, body oil stain completely gone.

Or the stains could be from scalp and facial oils. If the cover of the pillow can be slipped off the pillow, like with some of the memory foam types, it can probably be bleached. Maybe the maker did not want the pillow itself bleached? You might also have better results trying to wash the spot by hand with a soft brush if the cover cannot be removed. Unfortunately, in that case, the water does not flow through the fabric as well as it would if it were just flat, like a sheet or towel in the washing machine. So try your stain treatment and detergent solution on the pillow cover and, after letting it sit, use the soft brush and some water. After that, rinse off the cleaning solution with the pillow placed on its side so that the stuff does not drain down through the pillow. I would boil several quarts of water and pour the water against that area of the pillow, then see what it looks like. It is extra work, but it's not like digging ditches and maybe you will be rewarded with a clean pillow. If you do get it clean, maybe you could use some zip-on pillow protectors between the pillows and the pillowcases.

LOL!
It's a Sealy pillow and the cover doesn't come off. I suppose I could buy a new one. What the hell, if the bleach ruins it that's just what I'll do.
