I quite like wicking fabrics for running. They're just much lighter and if you're working out very hard it beats being in sopping wet fabric. However, my typical workout is pretty gruelling...
Fresh sweat doesn't actually smell bad, what stinks is bacteria that grows in stale sweat.
The important thing with gym gear is when you get home, wash it *immediately*. Don't leave it sitting in a bag.
There shouldn't be any issues with smells if your clothes are washed promptly.
Also, those fabrics aren't actually 'dirty', they're just sweaty so, they really just need relatively quick washing but, with a good detergent.
They will become smelly if you don't wash them promptly, not because of the sweat but because of what will grow in the sweat if you don't do that.
