Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I think "someone" pissed her off with his rather harsh comment about her posting all the different things for sale (each in a different thread).

Oh Really?

I wish I would have known about that earlier. We should encourage the posting of things for sale, that is how we find stuff. Who cares if it lands in new threads, the stuff that is most interesting will keep that thread going and on topic, the other new thread where there is not much interest will fall off rather fast.

Looks like I need to update the rules to specify this.

Again I ENCOURAGE MEMBERS HERE TO POST THINGS THEY FIND FOR SALE ON EBAY, CRAIGSLIST OR ANYWHERE ELSE THAT ARE ON-TOPIC AND RELEVENT TO THIS SITE. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH POSTING EACH ONE IN A NEW THREAD AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT POSTING TONS OF NEW THREADS. THREE OR FOUR NEW THREADS WITH THINGS ARE FINE. If they are all the same type of items, such as all Dishwashers or all Gas Ranges then they can all go in the same thread. If they are very different items then they should go into a new thread.

I Too Miss Launderess

The same thoughts of concern shared by other members were on my mind in the past week or so. Not being as experienced in all aspects of how the forum operates, I was wondering how to go about appropriately expressing my concern.

Such an insightful, informative, and knowledgeable source is our precious Launderess. Especially do I appreciate Launderess' verbal style. I trust that we'll hear from her soon!

John

I also miss our Laundress. She just has a way with words and almost an encyclopedic knowledge of how laundry chemicals work and interact with one another.

I certainly hope she wasn't offended by one person on this website. I hope she will choose to forgive and forget. Maybe someone should try to conjure her up.

Robert,

I remember I did comment on that thread. I think it's ok to have many separate threads with more precise titles which allow quicker searches but the fact that they fall into the archives quicker because of that is what causes the problem.

Couldn't threads stay active for a fixed amount of time rather than falling into the archive if about 100 other threads get newer posts (which happens quickly in the Imperial section)?

Quite a few times, I couldn't make a followup on a thread that had been archived too quickly (in my opinion). I don't blame other posters for that. Having many threads and many posts is what make an active forum. Would it be possible to keep threads active for a few months after their last post? I often wish I could reply to an old (and even just a two weeks old) thread but there's no reply box anymore.

On other forums that don't archive their threads, I often resurrected very old (I mean years old!) threads and I don't think it caused any problems!  Sometimes, on forums with email notification, it also stimulates occasional posters to look back at the forum they haven't visited for a while as they get a notification by email. It also allows posting all the information about something in the same thread instead of creating multiple separate threads about the same thing.

Also a bit out of the subject but I never figured how (or if there's a way?) to get email notifications for replies to threads we posted in. That's a feature I really like when it's available.  Also, (and this is completely out of the subject but I won't create a thread for that!). How do people quote other's comments in red text over their avatar? I was never able to do it. I did try to use the "Blockquote" in the editing bar but that doesn't seem to work for me.

I was Wondering Too:

I was wondering where our Launderess had disappeared to. I thought it may have been related to that comment on *that* thread, but I did a search and found a few other posts before she disappeared from our radar - so maybe it was a combination of life and being p***ed of at another member on here.

Phil, I don't believe we have e-mail notification on this site. However, we do have a nifty feature for the donating members with a "Wash, Rinse, Spin" indication, which tells you if there are NEW threads, Threads you've read with NEW replies (in which case, clicking takes you to the thread, then jumps you to the newest posts) and threads that have been READ.

I've found this feature really nifty, and is perhaps the main reason I'm a donating member these days

Thanks Ralph!

I never noticed that!

Washer111,

I like this feature but sometimes, I'd like to get email notification too!

So many of like minds!

Just the other day, I imagined a playful thread: Petition to bring Launderess* back.

Her singular voice is identifiable in any post she writes, a rare quality. She also spends more of her personal time doing research and sharing it, on a stunning myriad of topics, than any one here; and, she may also be our most prolific poster.

Launderess* is quite thick-skinned and strongly constituted, so I really doubt anyone could shove her over. She has taken sabbaticals before, and she could easily be back in Paris, again, for all "one" knows. ;'D

*her preferred spelling.

There is really no one like her. How many of us have machines in our collections because of L's tip-offs?

"Nobody does it better." (singing)

And as Rose of the Titanic famously said in her haunting, hopeful plea:

"Come back, come back, come back, come back......"

*that* comment about various threads

was made as theres quite a trend of threads made regarding one machine on ebay/craigslist whatever, that knock other threads off the bottom of the list.

I fail to see why 1 USA ebay/craigslist thread per month cant be made OR Specific threads regarding one particular machine brand/model that is labelled as such.

That day *the* comment was made IIRC at least 2 ebay Miele threads were made that both could of been rolled into 1 thread saving someone elses thread from being knocked off.

Perhaps a little consideration is needed by everyone. I wholeheartedly back the person who made *the comment* as that person was trying to save a lot of members frustration when it need'nt of been caused.

I also on a personal scale find thread entitled along the lines of, Wowzerrrrrrrs, OMG, Look at this!!!!!!!!!!!!, FOund one!!!!!!!!!!!, very unhelpful when it comes to finding information and looking through the forums. Perhaps some clue in the thread name be applied.
