This noodle had to google the arch references~

Cheadle is a UK city, but is it also a store or brand in NYC? i.e. "the free chopper"

Is there someone famous from Cheadle, one of the Bouquet's ancestors, perhaps? Do please tell, Dear!

Monkey suit is a tuxedo--one should have known that, but the citation lists as a possibility, the suit worn by an organ grinder monkey. Sure adds another comical dimension to the portrayal of the radical femininst lesbian. LOL

Gynecological gyp ~ well, I leave that for a day when I can polka without wincing.

What fun.

I just smiled and said we shall have fog by tea time...

That seems to agree with advice I read from Miss Manners (or some similar authority) not too long ago.

When asked what's the proper response when someone insults or slights one:

"Just look them in the eye, smile graciously, and say 'Thank you'".

I really can't think of a better reply.

Just wish I could remember it more often!

Queen Victoria has a slightly different variation.

When she first came to the throne as a young girl one of her closest advisors told her that under no circumstances should HM allow persons to query her on subjects she felt were none of their affair. To avoid answering the question Victoria was told to simply reply with a change of subject. Should the line of questioning persist repeat again and again. The upshot was to make the person doing the questioning feel they were barking up the wrong tree and had best leave it.

If a minister asked about a particular bill HM would reply how did he like her hair in curls.

Sadly QV stuck to this bit of advice until her dying days to such an extent that only those *very* close to her such as family could ever get a direct answer out of HM.

That whole bit was about creamy English charm. Well born British ladies and gentlemen are never to be outwardly rude and or unpleasant in conversation. Thus when someone asks an awkward question or such best to reply with some sort of bland *charming* response. However this can be done in such a way that lets the other person know clearly they have made a faux pas, well at least if they aren't thick and pick up on the vibe.

Not Monkey Suit, But Donkey Jacket

Donkey jackets are type of short coat worn by men who work outdoors. They date back to the 1920's or so. While there are versions today for females, normally it isn't the sort of feminine type garment ladies/girls would wear. However it probably suited the "radical femininst lesbian" down to the ground.

"Kitty" makes all sorts of comments about this producer and her obvious "butch" lesbian apperance throughout these skits. Don't know today if it would be given a pass though.

Thank you.

Figured that about the monkey suit. Can't wait to view these gracious treats this evening, but must go now; alas, not to visit a rad/fem/les, but I do so hope to see an organ grinder monkey at the Saint Paddy's Day Parade. *LOL*

Figured herself was behind it all. Oh that tenacious Hyacinth!

That probably works best if one happens to be a royal.

I have personally found it doesn't gain much traction should one try to use it when pulled over for an alleged traffic violation.

Your Back

Very nice to see your back, and I wish you well. As soon as I have time I need to ask your advise about some lace I will post a picture.

Well...

At least now we know what Launderess was doing whilst she was away: Glad to see you are helping people with their troubles, by reading the People's Friend from cover-to-cover, doing all the voices AND making a television show. My, my Launderess, you are a busy person!

Thanks for posting that too - very funny, and had friends of mine laughing too - which is rather unusual, given that what I find funny is usually frightening others!
