Which is easier on your vintage washer ... liquid or powdered laundry detergent?

It really depends, liquid detergents tend to gum up more than powdered detergent but powdered detergent can gum up as well but usually is not as bad compared to liquid. I tend to be more partial to powdered detergent since powdered detergent usually comes in a cardboard box vs a plastic jug, plastic detergent jugs usually aren’t recycled which isn’t good environmental wise.
Liquid versus powder for laundry detergent
There are minor advantages and disadvantages to both neither will harm a machine or cause any buildup if used properly if you pay attention to water temperatures water hardness etc.
I do agree the cardboard box is probably more easily and completely recycled then plastic bottles that detergent come in so that may be a factor to be concerned about.
In my own home I use a mixture of tide powder and liquid detergent usually use some of both and every load, powders are better generally for ground and dirt, liquids are usually better on oily soil‘s and body oils.
