I was wondering who has allergies to any laundry products/ additives and what? I am allergic to Liquid Tide (not powder), and Suavitel morning sun scent liquid softener. They both cause me to itch badly wherever clothes touch. I have not always been allergic to Liquid Tide, but it has happened in about the last year or so, and my mom also developed the same allergy at the same time.

Of all of the things I'm allergic to skin wise (thanks for the highly sensitive skin genes, mom), I'm not allergic to any laundry soaps or softeners.....yet. I became allergic to Dial soap back in 2000. Oddly enough, my brother did so too. I wonder if they changed the ingredients?

not specific, but

I'm not allergy to anything specifically that I know of regarding skin.
But I generally don't like a lot of fragrances and some will me stuffy or sneezy.

I have within the last year or so have become alergic to downy fabric softener. I know they have changed the formula because the smell is not the same in the bottle or on the clothes. I have had rashes come and go but now that i have stopped using it on everything the rashes are going away. So just sticking with powdered tide w/bleach and things are fine.

Fabric softeners in general are bad for my skin nowadays, in spite of years of using them religiously. Now that I've kicked that habit it turns out I don't really miss them - our clothes are still quite soft and towels are really more absorbent than before.

One thing in particular that still irks me -- I used SA8 for literally a decade++ for its great performance and without any issues, through the loss of phosphates and several formula tweaks. Yet, right after they got a 99 (!) on the (sometimes admittedly questionable) Consumer Reports detergent survey they decided the change the formula yet again after several years of stability and, sure enough, me and the boys started getting rashes. Had to stop using it and, after trying several options, settled on Persil Megaperls which gets almost everything out and hasn't broken anyone out yet in spite of being German industrial strength.

I have the same trouble as mysteryclock. All these new scents on fabric softener ( ie with last for days fragrance ) irritate my skin like crazy. I either get a bad red rash or in some cases I look like I have been stung by nettles....in both cases I itch like crazy and feel like the affected areas are on fire.

I now use Surcare softener, a bottle lasts me ages and no irritation. Detergent wise I use Persil Non-Bio. Surcare detergent has no bleaches or OBA's in it but just doesn't clean well. I don't seem to have a problem with OBA's or the perfume in Persil Non-Bio but have got skin irritations from some Bold and DAZ varients.

As mentioned in a previous thread I have also had skin irritation from ECOS detergent too.

No Tide no XTRA

Powdered Tide has always caused me to itch. By accident we bought XTRA brand after we ran out of detergent. Back come the itchies!

Ok. Back to Cheer, Trend, and Arm-and-Hammer. No more itchies.

It's funny. I've always been sensitive to TIDE. You would think that over the last decades it would have been reformulated enough by now so that I would react differently. Alas, I do not and still itch. Oh well, since I am not buying it there will be more TIDE for you TIDE-lovers.....

Back when I was in high school my mother used Miracle White detergent. It caused me to itch like mad and I developed a rash anywhere clothing washed in the stuff touched. I had many arguments with my mother over this. She said it was impossible to be allergic to laundry detergent and continued to use the stuff. I finally bought my own detergent and washed my own clothes.

I am also allergic to soaps that have moisturizing compounds in it, like Dove, Lux, etc. And I am also allergic to most body washes. They cause my skin to turn red and itch like mad. There is one I can use, but forgot the name of it.

Cheer® Free & Gentle

Most common problem for skin irritations to detergeants is that most users tend to use too much and it doesn't all wash out!!! I highly recommend to use one wash cycle without detergeant to wash away any of the excess detergeant and then try again using Cheer detergeant based off no more than the labeling instructions. You don't have to see suds! If you see suds, you probably used to much! If you have skin irritations, use Cheer Free & Gentle see link below. All Cheer products works with all water types (whether hard or soft, hot or cold). It completely washes out and does NOT contain any harsh optical brightners that will fade, break down fabric, and make your clothes dingy.

Do NOT use Xtra liquid detergeant!! Most people are allergic to this extremely cheap detergeant.

No Purex or it's brand mates ex.Trend

The problem I have is the scent of the detergents and softners except for Purex it is like washing clothes with fiberglass.

Me too

Having read many threads on the issue of using liquid washing detergents, I went back to using powder (Persil bio and coloureds) after many years (20 odd I would guess) of liquids. Lo and behold I starting itching and had a rash too, worst place was around the waistband of my trousers where my belt is keeping the fabric in more or less in permanent contact with my skin. Since going back to liquids the problem is very swiftly clearing up again. I am pleased that the problem did not get to my "briefs" area, but I know from former years (OK, MANY years - its a long time since my mother bought me my underwear!) that at best it uncomfortable and at worst downright painful - scourging my Dad used to call it.
