I came across this interesting video on youtube of a washer with no central agitator: Instead it has vanes around the outer periphery of the tub that move back and forth. It also fills by weeping through the tub perforations, which I found quite unique. Was there ever such a washer marketed in North America? I'm guessing this vid is from Brazil.

This is the kind of machines thet were sold in South america time ago, mostly in Argentina you can find alot of machines like that around in there.
Personally, I don't think these machines provides a good washing, anyway, even here in Italy there were some machines running on the same principle, some of these were  Zerowatt and Castor, I'll post videos later-

I chatted with the video poster

About this machine.  The video is from Brasil and the machine is cold fill only.  Although I do belive it was made in Argentina.  Most people there do not do hot washes.  The ground water can be as warm as 30-35C so it is warm enough for the detergents to work well.  Unlike here in Minnesota where the water temp is around 3-5C right now.

Right!

Most peole there didn't have water heaters in the past, as told having water actually warmed by the hot weather for most of the people that was enough, for this reason historically there was not the use of having  heaters for current hot water over there, so most of the machines were not provided with  hot fill, even most of the old Brastemp (whirlpool made) had only cold fill, in some istances machines were connected  for the moment or manually filled for hot washes thanks to small  gas  insta-water  heaters on purpose near the laundry area as told by my Brazilian Friend Rita, but  some models of Brastemp had either  hot and cold fill (TOL models) owned by ones having central  hot water available of course.
In modern days there're more people owining a water heater so many modern brazilian machines does have hot and cold fill, some models have also an internal heater.
