Leaky Soap Dispenser? (Not the door, the soap!)

I know this is a dumb question and it's because I simply don't know how it works. I feel foolish even asking it but i hate not knowing more. I became fascinated with dishwashers after having bought a new one recently. I think reviewed.com could do a better job with their videos even! (Split screen, more dishes, but I digress...)

Not sure if this is how it is supposed to work since there is no pre-wash cup or if this is an issue.

We only sort of noticed something funny and then wondered. We were noticing suds in during the pre wash and we started to peak in the closed cup. What we noticed was that even with the soap door closed it was filled with water and the soap was sort of already dispensing. (we use both full powdered pacs and mixed ones like cascade).

In both cases, it seems as if the soap is not quite making it fully to the wash cycle and is being flushed out during the "smart wash" pre rinse water check.

Pictures are from after first fill before the first voiding. Cup not opened.

Just don't know if this is broken and needs a warranty call or if this is expected behavior.

The detergent dispenser on some dishwashers completely seals when closed and won't allow any water to get in during the prewash.  However on other machines they are designed to allow water in.  I have posted a photo of my Siemens dishwasher (same company as Bosch; they use the same dispensers).  I have just taken this photo during the prewash and as you can see the cup has filled completely with water along with the <span data-dobid="hdw">turquoise</span> liquid detergent.  You can see from the photo that it is not sealed and the top is designed to allow water in.  But it doesn't really let any significant amount of detergent out.

 

My dishwasher is 10 years old and newer models now have a newer style of dispenser and I'm not sure if that is sealed.  So I would guess that your dishwasher is operating as designed.  As for the suds during the prewash, try starting it without adding the detergent and see if it's the same during the prewash.  The suds could be caused by the residual rinse aid or other soils present during the prewash.

The recessed area in the lid should be filled with detergent for best results, doing this will not only give you better results but will reduce the sudsing in the prewash cycle.

Thanks. Mine is brand spanking new and im not sure what the correct behavior is. Your post makes me hopful its ok,but still dont know! Lol...and i hate when i cant figure something out!
