I have been wanting to retrofit my Maytag consoles with LED lights for some time, but didn't want to do any wiring mods. I finally found what I was looking for!

New York LED Luminaries sells LED bulbs that will fit in our Maytags with absolutely no modifications. They work with the original ballasts. It was a simple plug and play swap, and they look great. Not to mention they are instant on and no flickering that the fluorescents are so bad about.

They have them in several color warmths, I got 4100K. They are a very close match to the original fluorescent color. I attached pics of them installed in my set.

They look great!!!

I use 4100k in my living room/dining room/office combo. For me they're the ideal cool vs warm balance. Warmer has a better feel but eye fatigue sets in prematurely when reading. Cooler feels too harsh and stark.

YMMV, but I think you've nailed it for a laundry room, and even better that the light is from the machines themselves!

Now I’ll need lights for my ‘63 Whirlpool set. This was a quick test to see what it would look like with halogen bulbs but I am looking for bayonet style of bulbs for it. Here’s a picture of what it looks like with the lighted panel on

Do you have a part# for LED lights

Wow - looks great
Ours have been out for years
Please share the part # type of LED and where to order from ?

Thanks

Looks good but I could never be persuaded to make the change out of pure nostalgia. Every time I fire up my machines, the initial flicker that's unmistakably florescent goodness, creates a time warp from nearly 40 years ago watching my grandmother use her set.

Just can't do it.

Thank you for the compliments!

I bought them from New York LED Luminaries. They don't have part numbers on their site per se, they go by what you are trying to retrofit. The washer takes a F15T8 fluorescent and the dryer takes a F20T12.

Your washer and dryer look great with the LED, you did a good job matching the color level.

I changed the fluro bulb on the 58 GE range when the transformer went bad, but I just used a 115v bulb and removed the transformer altogether. I leave this light on 24/7 so was glad to have the lower energy use LED. I also did the same thing in the vintage Vent-A-Hood above the range, the transformer was fried when I found it.

Yes The LED Lights Look Great

And the LED lights will probably keep the white plastic buttons on the console from yellowing from the ultra-violet light from the florcennet lamps.

I do agree with Dan that the cool flicker of the Florescent lamps is gone but if they are everyday drivers and not just museum pieces some concessions have to be made.

When I restored the CA900 pair 6 years ago I put in proper length bulbs so the entire glass panels are lit on both the W&D, I always hatted that MT cheeped out and put in such short bulbs to save maybe a whole dollar.
