I finally took these pix out of the camera. This is one of my favorite ways to use leftover ham!

A did one layer already and am starting with another. Sliced potatoes first...

Drizzle milk all over the top until it comes about 1/3 the way up the side of the bowl. Then top with breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese. Cover and bake at 350F for about 1 hour. Then uncover and bake about 15 minutes more. I gave a light broil to the top. Someone couldn't wait until I got the picture before he served himself dinner!

Of course you can flavor this any way you like by varying the types and amounts of seasonings you use. And shredded cheddar makes a great topping if you put it on in the last 5 minutes of baking!

Enjoy!!!

Chuck that is so yummy loking. Can almost taste it all the scollped ham and potatos and the veggies.

Good Idea for our dinner tonight.

Does this ever look GOOD!! I'm sorry my Easter ham leftovers are all gone, but this is worth baking another ham so I can try it. The photos have my mouth watering - we are ham lovers! How much flour do you put in?

oh that looks so good

My mom often made that exact same recipe when I was a kid. I haven't had it in eons. I always make split pea soup when we have leftover ham. Next time I'll have to remember to make this delicious casserole. Thanks.

Rich- I've got the (ham) bone in the freezer, waiting for the temps to cool back down so I can make split pea soup! I made a 9# ham even though it was just the two of us. Leftovers, ya know!!!

Kevin- it's probably 1 1/2 - 2 heaping tablespoons per layer. Another of those recipes I do by looks and not measurements. This way if I do it in a larger dish, the proportions are roughly the same.

Funny- I don't ever remember seeing this dish on a diner (or any other restaurant) menu. I've always considered it comfort food and would probably take it over shepherd's pie most days.

Here is our version of ham & scalloped potatoes:

chopped parsley and onion to taste, 1 cup milk, 1 cup 1/2 & 1/2 (light cream), bring to a boil, add 1 can cream of chicken soup (undiluted), stir while bringing back to a light boil, add 1/2 cup butter (no margarine), stir until butter is melted.  Pour over layers of sliced ham and potatoes.  Bake 2hrs @ 350 degrees or until the potatoes test done.  You may have to bake it longer depending on how many layers you have.

*ADD NO SALT
