Mmmmm. Citrus.

I may have to shake another batch of Daiquiris tonight, even if my limes are store-bought.

I've never had much of a sweet-tooth myself either, but I generally don't go much tarter than grapefruit juice without some added sweetening.

Nice site -- Thanks.

You kill me,

Lately I've become addicted to calamansi juice. They also make a powder(Philippine) that you shake on chicken and other meats before you grill/broil them. Are calamansi's and calamondins the same thing?

Those limes look like Persian, Tahiti, or Bearrs limes (all the same thing). It's the most common lime you find in markets.

Here in California, even this far north, most citrus grows great. It's not hot enough here on the coast in the summer to grow most grapefruit and some blood oranges, but I've got oranges of five varieties: Midknight, Trovita, Washington, Sanguinelli, Moro; eureka and meyer lemons; Bearrs, Kaffir (thai), and mexican limes; Minneoloa tangelo, Meiwa kumquat. The std Bearrs lime tree has grown quite large and is very prolific. I have to harvest it before the fruit is fully ripe or the weight will break major branches. More limes than I could possibly use, but I do prefer them to lemons. I am planning on replacing it with a true dwarf version.

Oh how wonderful. I really envy you having such a wonderful citrus orchard. I was just thinking yesterday as I put up the web page how great it would be to have just such an orchard.

Well, a lot of those citrus trees are true dwarfs, set in containers around the paved areas of the property. The std size trees are in the ground (Bearrs lime, Eureka lemon, Midknight valencia orange), along with a dwarf Washington navel orange. The rest are in containers. There was a period when I could not resist buying yet another little citrus tree, and now there really isn't room for any more. The limes go over great, I give away a lot every fall. The valencia oranges are so-so, kind of bland to my taste. The Minneolas are great - juicy and sweet but very seedy; the Moro is unpredictable but good when it produces. The Sanguinelli produces a lot but it's not hot enough here to get them sweet (but they do color up very nicely). It's good juiced and mixed with the valencia juice. The Trovita is the best orange for this area, IMHO. I overwatered one Trovita tree in its container - it's protesting by not bearing fruit for the past year, but its std size cousin, also in a container, still bears. Don't really care for the Meyer lemon... it's ok but I prefer a real lemon or a lime. The Kaffir lime is great for some types of spicy food - esp a green curry.
