Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Ultrawash!

These were very good performing dishwashers. Myself personally I did perfer the Whirlpool models over these. I did like having the silverware on the door. What ever the choose I also feel it was necessary to have the adjustable upper rack cause on these models this made the major difference in flexable loading. As well as with the whirlpools. Also on the whirlpools I liked having the heavy wash cycle that gave a extra water change without having the intensity of the pots/pan cycle.
I never heard complaints of poor performance of these machines - they were great!

Ultrawash III

Thanks for posting! I have fond memories of that line as not only did I work at Sears Brand Central in the mid 90s, but my parents had model 16849 from the 1994 series in their home from the spring of '95 until last summer. For much of that unit's early life, it did dishes for a family of four as my brother and I were still in school and lived at home. It literally ran once a day, sometimes twice if friends or relatives were over. I don't recall a dish ever coming out dirty. Never a service call either. Unit still ran fine last summer when it got replaced by a Bosch for the simple reason that my mother wanted something quiet and also a tall tub as some larger plates would not fit in it(and after using an Ultrawash who wants to go back to handwashing anything!). When I was having my house built several years ago I specified an uplevel dishwasher as Kenmore was the appliance brand being used. I was pleased when I saw it was an ultrawash and while it does a pretty good job(and is MUCH quieter than my parent's old unit), I don't think it cleans as well as their older did unless I use the Pots Pans cycle. And it runs much longer too. But for the price, I don't know there is a wash system that cleans better than these.

I have one!

Like Jims in the photo, except mine is built-in and black.
I fear the day it dies :-(
I keep trolling street for a lower rack since mine is getting rusty in places, but so far no luck.

Mine is about 10 years old. My only complaint is rack material is vinyl coated and that has broken down and is rusting. New racks are about $100.00 each. A new machine costs $272.99 (Model 1344). I do not like the long cycle of the new one, but for that price, and it looks no more cheaply made than the one I have, I may spring for it.

Hey Spankomatic...

I had the exact dishwasher except mine was the built in model. It cleaned great but the big thing on the bottom burst and I had to replace it in 2007 with a Whirlpool Gold. Jim

Hey peter nice scans ...
I remember these Kenmore series ...
The Power Clean wash system works very well !!!I took a kenmore utensils basket of a model once in the picture above and put it in my Whirlpool. It did ok for large items basket for large utensils but got bulky with the door and some items it did not get good spraying results so i took it out.
Otherwise the PCS does a Fantastic Job. I have owned this model for eight yrs now.

There was a house we rented in April 1997 for 2 years. It had a Kenmore dishwasher. The house was three years old when we moved in. I think it had one of these dishwashers but it was builders grade....It only had two controls: the cycle selection and the heat/dry button. It worked great though.
