Let's have a hand mixer thread...

I've found some new mixers over the past few weeks at the sales and I thought it would be fun to start a mixer thread...

First up is this cute GE hand mixer... Does anyone know from approximately what year this is from? If I had to guess, I would say early 60s?.. All it needed was a good wipe-down... It was definitely used, but well taken care of.

It has a clever little beater-ejector... Yikes!! The beaters need some more scrubbing...

Then there's this little turquoise gem. I bet this is later, say mid to late 60s? I know this was a popular design that came in many colors, and had a knife sharpener attachment available.

Last for tonight is one that I've had for a few years. I think this came from eBay., practically unused.

Fred, those are all great looking mixers..and a few of the aw.org members, incl. myself, have that Jetson's
styled GE model(it looks green in the photo, not turquoise?). I have it in yellow, but it's not perfect. I'll try to add something later. I know there are some incredibly well-preserved and old hand-mixers that aw.org members/visitors have. Really amazing, that no one would use a mixer...unless it was just a surplus that was never sold?

that mixer in the first post is the exact one my parents got as a wedding gift in 1967-still going strong I have a few similar to it,including a black and decker branded one from 1986-case is different,but pretty much the same inside right down to the little 4 blade fan.

mixers are one of those appliances you associate with VERY GOOD.

 

You know that when ones in use, in about hour or so

 

something delicious is bound to be the result.

My mother's hand mixer was a wedding present and is still going. Will have to get a pic of it next time I'm at her house.

I have a few hand mixers-one from Kelly-Sunbeam-others from yard sales and the swap shop.Have a GE one that looks like the turquoise one in the thrid picture-but Harvest Gold instead-it works-but one of the beater blades wobbles slightly.Don't use hand mixers as a whole.Its just as easy to use the Sunbeam or the HB G.

Now, here`s my little collection.

The Sunbeam Junior is my favourite hand mixer design wise.

The pink Bosch is one very rare example of a cool 50`s design made in Germany. (Most of our vintage small appliances were butt ugly.)

I won the GE from Ebay, unfortunaterly no beaters but I have beaters that fit well. Previous ownwer replaced the original plug with a 220V plug, but I guess he never dared to use it because it has no burned smell and still runs fine on 110V.

The Krups is my daily driver and it`s the only one strong enough to knead dough.

The Chrome Sunbeam Junior was my Grandmother Craigs, my Uncle gave it to her Christmas of 58.

My Favorite:

In hand mixers, as in midcentury stand mixers, my choice is always Dormeyer.

This is the chrome Dormey hand mixer, known as the Silver Dormey. She goes very well with my chrome Dormeyer Princess stand mixer. I also have two Dormeys in white, one of which I've had since 1975, when it was found NOS in a Durham, NC general store (don't look for a general store there today!). This photo was taken as-found, before a going-over with Wenol to polish 'er up.

These babies beat the socks off any other hand mixer I've ever used. Hans, the lucky cuss, has a Silver Dormey box on top of one of his cabinets in the photos he's sharing. But then, Hans has everything!
