Hi guys,
I've been interested in lg appliances ever since experimenting with the different cycles and temps. Anyway, I have been interested in their blowers and the insides. They seem to run quietly, yet powerfully. I can barely hear a blower hum, yet I can hear the airflow through the tube for the dryer duct. I guess that's why they use lower temps and higher airflow to compensate for the best balance.
Anyway, here's a disassembly video for the lg dryer. Later in the video, you will see the blower.

insides

It seems to me that the insides look different from the duets. sorry if I keep making new posts. It is interesting how these motors and fans have such a high output of air - at 215 cfm's (please correct me.) I've been interested in lg (their) blowers for sometime. Could that be a contributing factor to lower temps and shorter times on these lg dryers? Also, what do you think of the interior setup of the mechanicals? Opinions welcome, including anybody who has worked on lg or curious about them.

It's not significantly different from numerous other dryers.  Pretty much identical to the Maytag Neptune dryer that I repaired couple weeks ago.

1) LG

2) Neptune

I don't have a pic with the blower housing in place but it can be imagined sitting to the left in front of the motor and fit into the center exhaust ducting.

lg and neptune

I guess it makes sense that the lg tromm and maytag neptunes may have an identical setup. I think of lg as the extremely high-tech version of the neptunes. I'm also sure that if the lg was open with the inner workings exposed and running, a heavy rush of air could clearly be heard.

blower fan blade diameter

Do these use a wider or shorter diameter blower and fan blades? Anybody seen the insides of an lg? I wish I was at my mom's house when my dad fixed her lg dryer when it was making noise so I could see the blower and what it looked like. The rollers were making the noise, but that's besides the point. My point is examining the blower of the lg, just as I did with theGE I had prior to the Kenmore elite, also made by lg. Maybe lg uses a powerful fan, or just a bigger motor and blower for efficiency, higher airflow, lower temp and faster drying time. I guess it's why it takes 41 minutes for a normal cycle.

SmartLoad is rated 230 cfm with "average" exhaust ducting restriction.  The motor runs at 2,300 RPM.  Doesn't say what "average" restriction entails.  As I'm sure you know, cleanliness of the lint filter along with material, length, number and degree of bends, hood design, and cleanliness of the exhaust ducting all affect airflow rate of any dryer.

You should measure the airflow rate to confirm it.  Convention is that each 90°F elbow reduces the allowed total duct length by 5 feet.

There are no elbows on mine, straight shot out an exterior wall, distance less than 1 foot.

airflow rate and heater operation

I believe lg dryers blow out 65 feet of air (please correct me). I had a chat with lg and I was told that both heaters operate on the normal cycle at full power even on medium heat, only to cycle on and off all at once to maintain temperature. Please correct me, but doesn't lg dryers blow at 215 cfm inside? I thought that was correct. I noticed that I could hear air blowing through sheets if I had a load of them in there. Please help me better understand.

LG Dryer Blowers

As Glenn has stated there is not much difference,

Both LG and SS are just thin poorly made copies of WPs 27" dryers, take one apart and just look and feel how cheap and thin the metal is.

And what is up with plastic blower housings, you are just asking for really serious fires with a plastic blower housing.

drum pictures

Hey John, thanks for the pictures. I've used speed queen washers and they're indeed heavy-duty. No wonder why Samsung and lg drums crack at the seems. There's no telling how long their blowers may last. Maybe they'll eventually become misaligned causing the fan to make a grinding noise.
