LG Front loader.. Time for an update!

Well it has been about 2 months that we have had the Infamous LG Front loader and it has actually not given us much trouble in the past 2 weeks. Every so often it would hiccough and not turn but I now keep the control panel unscrewed and even my wife knows how to get the machine to run.

That being said, I caught the latest water bill the other day before she paid it and filed it away and was amazed to see that out consumption is down over 3000 gallons a month! Not quite 20 bucks worth, but reduced usage also saves us on sewage charges as well!

Can it really be that the washer saves that much water over our old Kenmore 70 series washer?

If anyone has had the same experience, feel free to let us know! And again, thanks to everyone who walked us thru the first trying 2 weeks!

And BTW, the clothes do seem to come out cleaner and way less lint in the lint screen of the dryer and drying times cut down to less than the old Kenmore dryer as well. Usually the drying load is dry before the next wash load is ready!

LG Washers

Are of the "wet nap" front loader variety, using much less water than say even your typical laundromat front loader, and many older frontloading washing machines. They certianly use less, much less water than your old top loading washing machine, so you should see the difference in your water bill, and did.

Local news showed a housewife trying to save pennies in these "tough economic" times, and she replaced her top loading washing machine with a Whirlpool "Duet", and that cut her water bill by 40% in a month.

I really think it wouldn't take that long (granted I'm just speculating, numbers would be nice right about now). We tend to diminish just how piggish TL's really are. Just cuz they're so much fun!

We are lucky to have very cheap water rates around here, the electric or gas fuel for the dryer must have popped out at the lady, Laundress mentioned. Is there some way to come up with average dryer energy savings per month, with the high speed spin models? thats the answer i would want. really the answer we all need, on the cusp of cold weather, heating bills.

For the price they cost

They should NOT give ANY trouble AT ALL! And FOR SURE in only 2 mos. I would be on their ass again.. I have 2 and admit they do a good job of washing. But service wise Pooy!!! In January they BOTH go to the KRUSHER!!YEA!!

LG Washer

Well guys...My LG washer will be 5 years old this November. I had one problem with an occasional leak. Servive came right away and replace the door. Never had any problems since. I also have one of the first models out. I think this can happen with any appliance that is new to the market. I guess it is the luck of the draw. Some are fine, and then there are the LEMONS. lol

Two months ago, I had to replace my dryer. I replaced it with the LG, (controls on the back). LOVE the dryer. Very sound, stable and quiet. Does and excellent job in drying. Especially on ULTRA LOW for sweaters. Laundry that had to be hung to dry for fear of shrinkage, I now put in the dryer. (Still like the bed sheets out on the line though...).

After my service experience with LG - you couldn't give me one. I have also been told by some appliance dealers that their service is still bad. So beware of LG service. I am still looking to replace the unit I got rid of over a year ago. But living without anything is better than LG.

I have also heard about the lG Service being bad. But, I deal with a large well know appliance chain, and have a friend that is a manager of one of the stores, and he said they had minor issues. So...go figure. I think with all of the new appiances out there now, that you are taking a chance on all of them. The quality of the LG products, and also some of the other European appliances are so much better than a lot of the American made ones.

The real money savings with a modern front-load washer

Comes from not having to use as much hot water. Heating domestic water is often the biggest energy consumer in most homes.

PS Peteski, the LG hasn't given me any trouble at all, thank you again. My clothes are wearing out less, I do fewer loads than with my old Friggy top-loader stack job and I saw a significant drop in my water consumption and non-heating season natural gas usage.

Hi Peter - I am Happy the combo is working for you. I still have not replaced the unit and use the public lanundy room. Do you mean to tell me it has not leaked at all? But anyway I hope you are doing well - I guess the unit wasen't meant to stay with me. I still have my eyes open for a replacement.

The two I have

Have Never stopped leaking for more than a day or two after service.. We just learned to keep a couple of old blankets down around the front . We always keep the wet and dry vac ready to go too.. usually after a full day we have to use that.

Where does the leak come from?

I have recently adopted a LG 8074FHB.

It is a 2003 model and needed new bearings, seal and spider, plus quite a bit of rust repair behind the plastic lower panel (panel has pump access behind it.) Clearly it has been leaking for a while. I am now using it as my daily machine, but each load so far it has widdled some water out from the detergent dispenser drawer. 3 loads so far.
It is definitely not excess water pressure - we have gravity feed from a tank up the hill, our water pressure is quite low.

I suspect that it is caused by air pressure building up inside the drum as water flow in - the air in the drum is vented into the dispenser unit, and can only escape past the drawer. I think the escaping air is pushing water out with it. It seems a very odd fault but I have read of leaks from the dispenser being common on LGs. I phoned the LG agents today, they said either the water pressure is too high (it isn't) or the air breather tube on top is blocked. (it isn't). The breather tube feeds air from the drum, back into the dispenser. I think it is a design fault, I will see if I can ventilate the drum or dispenser better and see if the leaking goes away.

Mine was leaking from the door boot. Even after so much grief with service the boot was finally replaced. Than after that I started to get a leak from underneath the machine. When the service checked it out the last time they thought it could be the pump but said they would have to take the whole unit apart to determine issue. I was so discusted at that point that I canned the machine. See lg service nightmare under google. I still cannot see why combos are not being made by american companys like whirlpool and frigidaire?

They leaked everywhere

you get one fixed and it starts somewhere else.. The door, the back seals, the pump. the fill tube, U name it. It leaks sooner or later. Just gave up on them just not worth it.. sop up the water and let it go. They go to the krusher in January after we have at them with slege hammers. Everyone here has paid to get "whacks"at them . Some of the chemical reps bought "whacks" too. raised over 1000.00 for a local spay/nuter/return program Even the neighbors next door bought "whacks" they hate the water running under the walls.

Yes sudsman you are right - And such poor service. If people want to take the chance on purchasing them go for it. But I hope you don't need to get them serviced!
