hey guys help needed. 3 lg washing machines black with steam over the last year and a half none of them heat the water to the correct temp on any prog. there is no way this can just be the 3 i have had anyone who has one get in touch none of the 3 was the same model number

Hey

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your LG's. We have an LG F1479FDS5 9kg, 1400spin steam washing machine and my aunt has the F1479FDS6 which is the same in black.

What are your findings? Have you contacted LG? If so, what was their response?

Hope it gets sorted.

hey

cheers for reply lg has changed the pcb4 times and the element 4 times now they are giving me my money back again. do you know the heating phase on yours ?

I don't know the heating phase tbh. How did you check? I know it heats when the jet is off and when it's on a 60oc wash the door can't open after a while as it's too hot to open for safety reasons.

What temperature does your machine heat to? (For example on cottons 40 or 60 etc)

What are your plans now? From what I remember you previously had a dyson like we did which was amazing!

As with all modern machines due to energy saving reasons and A+++ added top energy labels, manufacturers are trying to be more energy efficeint, which means that on a cottons 60 wash, most actually only reach 50-55C. Instead a longer programme duration and / or intensive wash actions clean the clothes to 60 standard.

The only brands that don't do this are Panasonics & Bosch/Siemens (which have a Eco button), and Miele's (Which have two dedicated low energy cycles). Hotpoints [Since the introduction of the programme Cotton Standard] with Superwash selected also reach full temp, but if washing in normal mode also run at lower temp.

It is only the Eco cycles that have the lower temperatures, most brands still have their standard cycles which indeed do reach target temperature.  E.g. Bekos have seperate Cottons and Cottons Eco cycles (it states in their manuals that Cottons Eco doesnt quite reach temp), my Maytag-Asko reaches the set temperature regardless, AEG/Zanussi also have seperate Eco cycles so the default cycles still reach the full temperature.

It is sneaky in one respect how energy labels only test on the Eco cycles, but the flipside is that the standard non-eco cycles are as before and often use a lot more water for rinsing etc.

most actually only reach 50-55C

Actually, a recent issue of our consumer magazine tested the temp of these 60C Eco cycles: IIRC, AEG was 44C, LG 46C and others (including Miele) 50C. The best washer for temperature accuracy was an A+ Miele top loader at 58C.

Guarentees

I cant help thinking there is a sort twisted irony to this guarentee business with quality machines you shouldnt need a long guarentee as they are built to last whereas with cheap junk you will need a long guarentee

hey

Cheers for the reply. I normally wash at 40, 60 or 90 degrees. At 40 the machine will hit 23 degrees. The 60 programme hits about 45 degrees and the 90 hits 60. The only way to get the machine to heat to the correct temperature is to trick the computer into thinking it has an 11KG load detected - to do this I have to saturate the load, switch the machine off, then back on, select the programme and it will show as 11KG!

How to check if yours is heating - at the start of the programme, the circulation pump comes on and off as the drum turns. At the end of the heating phase on the cottons programme the circulation pump stays on for the rest of the wash cycle before rinse. Just before rinsing, press pause, open the door and feel the water - select steam wash and there is no heat in the water whatsoever.

On a 60 wash, do same as above, but the loading door will not open as the temperature is rising. Before rinse, empty some of the water from the tube out of the filter compartment - not 60 degrees...

Mix programme was working, now is not. £1000 for a washing machine that will not heat water - its a joke! LG have no answers, I had the chief engineer sitting in my kitchen for 3 cycles with a meter on the plug socket to see how long the element was on for - engineers comments on report "Machine not heating water to correct temperature". I have had one 11KG in black without steam, one 9KG with steam and currently an 11KG with steam. LG do not have an answer to what is wrong with it.

I have 2 dry cleaning shops, one of my staff has a white LG 8KG which is not heating the water. A friend has a 9KG without steam, also not heating the water. Just about to contact Watchdog! LG Head office is supposed to be phoning me tomorrow.

hey

i did to start with they changed the pcb saying they knew there was a fault.since then on spin its perfect

mick1979

mmm, i feel like LG cheated me with their machine, i used to own there 11kg, and i actually liked it because of the flexible of programs but the unbalanced error keep appearing, and they replaced the pcb board twice and still, i kept on getting the same problem, i was so mentally drained with the pile of washing piling up, i accepted the refunded and went for the samsung 12kg, by the way is a good washing machine, but not as flexible as the LG by far, but ideally i wanted to get a miele but i need capacity so i went for samsung, if LG spent the time & effort in sorting out the problems with the machine without 1 to 2 weeks wait for an engineer i would still have a LG:(

hey dave

i love the look of the machine thats it. I went 6months without a machine in total not so much of a problem as to start with i took it to work then bought a hoover optima 200 quid washed fab heated the water but the noise on spin was mind numbing sooooooooooooooo loud

hey logixx

i could do that with my dyson. not seen any of the engineers do anything like that on the lg all they used was thermometer.

Yeah, on the dyson you held in the temperature and soil type button as you switch it on and then start a wash and it'd display everything on the display.

The LG washing machine at grans (WM12220FD, it has a green led countdown display) also shows the temperature when you hold in the time delay and opt.2 button. However our LG washing machines have a big lcd display so don't do that.

Looking forward to hear what LG say to you tomorrow.
