I pulled this off of marketplace yesterday. I ordered the Natural Gas orifice because this one was propane. Also I found this video of a different model with I think it is a faulty flame sensor or igniter or gas valve coil or maybe even the CCU (machine controller). What is the percent chance of this happening on any given cycle to ME? or will I hear a pop on the CCU indicating a malfunction. On the Video after the Burner is shut off the igniter seems to be glowing very faintly so the flame sensor is probably defective or the controller is bad. I am a little concerned of this happening to me but the main problem is electric is too expensive to run. Whenever I bring ANY electric Dryer into the house the electric bill goes up $20-$50 and my Dad is NOT fond of that. so Gas is generally my only option unless it is rare like my Fisher&Paykel DEGX1. Have you encountered this problem on any Given Dryer before. I know that is isn't an LG Specific failure but ANY BRAND can have this problem. Has anyone encountered it before? Let me know. Say Encountered this failure on a (Brand) Gas Dryer.

Yes. A cousin bought an LG washer on CL based on my recommendation, and a few months later bought a matching gas dryer, again used.  She was never happy with the washer, due to I think user error, claimed the clothes in the middle never got wet.  The dryer always smelled of gas.  Her husband, an engineer, tore into it and replace most everything.  Called LG and complained to no avail.  She got fed up with both pieces and replaced them with a MOL GE TL.  Sold the LG set basically for what they paid and put into it.

I sold a few sets of LG units to other family members and had zero issues, with the gas dryer or the washer for that matter, they all love the units, but they were new units vs. 3 or 4 year old sets.

LG Gas Dryers

I have seen LG dryers do this little trick of just dumping gas without igniting it.

Fortunately it is not as dangerous as it sounds because the gas is so quickly dulouted that it will not combust, However if the dryer is not properly vented outside it could get just a little dangerous.

The BIG question is why even brother with an LG gas dryer for your home ?, we build the worlds best gas dryers in this country and used ones are a dime a dozen.

These full sized LG & SS dryers are just a cheap copy of WPs 27" dryers that WP introduced in 1988.

Hi Richard, I do commend you for tackling some of this newer junk, but from my experience as an appliance professional the last thing I want to see when I come home is a broken appliance, I see this stuff all day long.

I don’t even trust those LG gas dryers at all. I trust my 1973 Maytag DG306 more than I do a newer LG gas dryer. Only newer gas dryer that is worth the investment is a Whirlpool 29” gas dryer and Whirlpool hasn’t changed them all that much since 1966 despite variations in the design since 1966

Leaking air

I feel like I didn't put something back in right. I am going to get an LG DLE5977W and Use the Harness and burner from this one to convert it and then get the board for DLG5988W and convert it to gas. I honestly like Electric Better. It is leaking air and I am concerned about the gas valve problem and it leaking gas into the air and not exhausting it. When I get the DLE5977W and if it works and Heats fine then I am going to leave it how it is and part out this one. I am not going to have Natural gas or Carbon Monoxide leaking into the air. I enjoy babysitting the Washer and Dryer to watch them go through the cycle but I digress. I just think leaking Exhaust is a bad thing. I tried everything to fix it. from placing the dryer on the duct and wrapping it with foil tape. My dad put a screw through the duct and it crushed the dryer Duct so now it is permanently deformed. If this DLE5977W doesn't leak then I am tossing this one and using the DLE5977W. My Fisher&Paykel DEGX1 and Maytag MDG5500AWW and my Aunt's DLE2532W all don't leak.

Leaking Air ? From An LG Dryer

Hi Kelly, the only place a dryer can leak air is from the blower on, this is 20" of vent pipe and very easy to seal, how can the pipe be crushed by a screw ? just straighten it out, aluminum tape is practically water tight there should be no measurable leaking of air.

How do you know this dryer is leaking ?, What reading are you getting on your CM meter ?

This dryer only produces a 1/10 the of the carbon monoxide your gas kitchen range does, how are you controlling that ?

No

I put a plastic bag where I was feeling it and it blew it across the room. I'm getting the DLE5977W Tomorrow. That is actually the one I WANTED but I was first told it was going to be sold but then things changed. Well now I atleast have the proper equipment to convert it to gas if I need to

Blower Housings In Clothes Dryers

Virtually every WP clothes dryer ever built including now has a steel blower housing.

WP has worked hard to prevent dryer  fires, that't why you don't see plastic door liners like Maytag and others used for years

Has anyone noticed that WP quit using rubber-vinyl type door seals on their dryers and instead have gone to a woven fiber gasket like self-cleaning ovens use to reduce fire risk.

My bad John

But I did watch a half dozen LG dryer repair videos this morning and they all had metal blower housings. It looks like some Electrolux dryers have plastic housings and surprisingly, a fairly brand new Speed Queen dryer had a plastic blower housing.

Thanks for the education. This is now going to be something I look for in a new dryer. No Speed Queen for me now. That's disappointing since I'd like to support a local company.

I will always prefer WP-produced dryers, but they have to be a side-swing and not hamper door style. Thankfully my 26 y/o Maytag Dependable Care is still chugging along.
