I live in the woods and we have a septic system. Could I use the Steam function as an alternative to bleach or does this just put excessive wear on the baffles and Spider? I want to know this for 2 reasons. A bleach is bad for my Septic System and my spider arm. and 2 If the TROMM I get is a steam washer.

Bleach Is Good For The Aluminum Spider In Your Washer

I have never seen a spider failure in a FL washer where bleach was used regularly and putting a few gallons of LCB in a septic system will not make any difference, just be sure the septic system is getting lots of organic matter [ S..t ] and food waste from your garbage disposer.

Hi,

the best "alternative" to bleach (I would say it's far better than bleach) is a profile wash with high temperature and a good powder detergent with oxygen bleach in it.

The steam cycle is good for softening the laundry and for disinfection of it but does nothing on whitening if is also this what you are looking for.

I've been using chlorine bleach on whites loads, and dishwasher detergent, for years with no apparent impact on my 15yo septic.  County requires a maintenance contract with recurring inspections (or the homeowner must attend training to DIY it).  My contract is with the original installers, they've never said anything about adverse effects from the bleach.
