Happy holidays! Been meaning to post a review of the LG washer and dryer for quite sometime now. And now that it's hit the five year mark, I figured this is a perfect time to do it.

This is our fourth washer and fifth dryer we've ever owned in this house since 1991. First was a GE Filter-Flo set from my parent's old house sometime in the 80's. Then it got replaced by another GE set in the 90's and brought the old set to our first cabin. In 2004 I believe it was, we've upgraded to our first front loader. It was either going to be the Maytag Neptune or the Whirlpool Duet in the house because we bought them both at the same time from what I was told since the other was going to go to our last cabin. Ultimately we chose to keep the Neptune here and brought the Duet to the cabin along with the GE set the Neptune replaced cause it was designed to have two washers/dryers. In 2014, the motor on the Neptune dryer burnt out and chose not to fix it based on the appliance technician's advise. So we replaced it with an LG based on the technician's recommendation. In 2019, the bearing on the Neptune washer went bad and also chose not to fix it based on the technician's advise. So we bought the washer first, there were some thoughts about getting the matching dryer or keeping the old one since it still worked fine for us. In the end, we got the matching dryer because my sister's old Kenmore 70 Series wasn't working too well anymore around the same time so we gave the other LG to her.

Overall, we've been really pleased with this set. I still miss the Neptunes and there were times where I wished we could've gotten them fixed. But, I'd say these are the best machines we've ever had! I also wished I could've gone back in time and got a SQ instead because they were offering a limited 10 year warranty especially in stainless steel which is probably the best looking set I've ever seen! And I also like with how much simpler they are especially by repairing it which brings me to one of the drawbacks with this set. Despite that, if we had to get another set today, I'd get another LG either this same thing or something else that's more simpler like with less settings that we rarely use in our machine. Or if we had to get something else instead, I'd probably get a Samsung this time since our window to get a SQ has passed cause they're WAY too expensive for us now and Samsung is another brand that the technician likes.

Anyways, here's what we really love. The color is my favorite, it cleans great, rinses well, I really like the size of the machines, very quiet, balances quite nicely, the lights inside are a cool feature, the steamer in the dryer is handy to use, it's also handy to use the tub clean cycle, wrinkle care works which I use almost every time, I can get access to the drain pump filter to clean out before it ever plugs up, I like the Turbo Jets where the water recirculates similar to our old Filter-Flo where it makes a performance difference, and the end of the cycle tone is very satisfying to hear.

Now here's what I dislike about them. The washer would occasionally leak out of the door seal. Even after when we had our washer fixed and had the technician refit the seal back on after I pointed it out to him, it'd still leak out once in a while. Yes as I had just mentioned, we did had one major problem with this washer last year and the pump went bad in it. I was expecting it to last longer but according to the technician that came over and fixed it, all modern pumps today don't last for a long time anymore however I have my doubts. But he did replaced it with a different pump that supposedly is more reliable than our old one. Anyways not only I wasn't impressed with the reliability of the pump but also I mentioned before that had we gotten a SQ and if the pump went bad on it, it would've been faster and simpler to repair because I've seen with how simpler they are compare to the LG which looks rather more complicated. Not to mention it wouldn't have costed us anything because that's another downfall with the LG, the one year warranty is ridiculously short in my opinion. There's also another problem with the washer and just happen to notice it recently, there's a crack in the dispenser housing. That explains why I've been noticing leak marks from the side of my machine once in a while. I don't know how that happened but I'm gonna try to seal it up for now cause I don't want to replace it at the moment. Maybe that's what's causing the vinegar/sanitizer and bleach to leak out of it's dispenser tray. If that's actually common on LG, then that's another drawback I have with it. And finally for the washer, I didn't notice this until somebody pointed it out. Occasionally the water pipes would have banging noises in one of the bathroom walls called water hammering. Doesn't appear to be a huge problem cause it only does it for a short time but it is however annoying to hear. The dryer luckily doesn't have too many drawbacks but this downfall I think is definitely a design flaw. The lint filter is pretty weird because you have to pull it out of the dryer and open it up to clean the lint out. Our other LG dryer didn't had that. And if you open it out too wide, you'll break it which unfortunately that's what happened with ours. Not to mention the OEM replacements are so expensive to replace, there are aftermarkets available but reviews are saying they don't fit as well as the genuines. Another weird thing about the dryer is that the flow sense light would come on even with the filter cleaned out and barely any build up inside the vent hose. Maybe there's something else going on with the dryer, but I do know that our other LG dryer I thought was better from the beginning because most of our loads we'd have to do a second cycle through them which I think is no big deal but something worth to mention.

Again, they're both amazing and I highly recommend them as they're available still from LG's website today unless they're already discontinued. If there's one thing I'd make a change about mine is I'd get pedestal drawers cause they'd be better for my height.

Hey.....

not counting the cracked dispenser housing... and this may or may not work in your case...but believe it or not, it worked for me... YEARS ago, I noticed a dried streak mark of where water had leaked down my duet from the very bottom of the door and just ran down a straight line down the front of the bottom of the machine from there. I was like "Oh crap, my washer is leaking"... On the forum years ago, someone mentioned that if you keep the seal and glass wiped down, that shouldn't happen.. What can happen is the lint/dirt/sludge or whatever you want to call it can build up on the bottom of the glass where the glass meets the seal...since then, I wipe my glass and seal when I'm done doing laundry and it's never leaked since. It my case, that was the problem..

But there are a # of things that can cause that so it may not be the issue.. .but who would think that could case a leak... just not wiping the glass down? LOL...

At least it's lasted this long...I've heard those pumps going out is a common thing....but didn't they update them in newer machines or something? I feel like I remember reading that somewhere. Maybe on here.

I too would LOVE a Speed Queen front loader! Imagine getting that thing in your house and know you will likely never have any problems with it... With all the other brands it's a total gamble... and even SQ can have issues... just much less likely since their FL washers are built like a tank

I might try that and see if that'd make a difference or not. My aunt has a Maytag version of the Duet and it doesn't have a problem with bleach or softener leaking out of the dispenser. Of course she never takes hers out to dry.

From my understanding the technician said the older AC pumps have less issues than the DC pumps like what was on ours, even he said the AC pump on his 15 somewhat year old LG is still going. But when I asked him why he'd still recommend LG despite our pump going bad, he said that all pumps on newer machines regardless of brand have a shorter life expectancy. I had my doubts because I've seen pumps on other branded machines that lasted longer than ours and even are still going today. He may be right but during our conversation and when we were talking about SQ, he told me that SQ got sued for the TR machines being advertised for commercial use. So I did some research and no where have I found that was the case. While I do trust him, I don't think he's right on some things. But I think I'm glad I was able to get my grandfather a SQ SF7 instead of an LG Washtower when his Maytag Neptune got thrown out. If his SQ continues to run before getting another problem on my LG, I think I may seriously consider saving up and get a SQ once I move out again. Just wish they were still selling them in this stainless steel version because I really love the looks of it! That's what I think we should've gotten in the first place, even I would've offered to help chip in for it being more expensive than LG.

I've read about LG dryers and their overly sensitive venting protocol triggering the flow sense error and sometimes shutting the dryer down prematurely, even with a perfectly clean vent run. I think they especially don't like long vents, and the run on mine is I'd guess about 25-ish feet because it goes vertically up to the second floor, makes a right turn, runs along the wall, makes another right turn, then terminates to the right of my back door outside, but way up on the second story. So, I figured that was just asking for problems with the LG dryer, given what I know about that issue. Plus, my standard, top-filter Whirlpool dryer works perfectly and I really like it, so I now have a front loading LG washer paired with the 29-inch Whirlpool dryer and that setup seems to work just fine. I believe the washer is more important anyway, that's where you should splurge in my opinion, and a person can get pretty much whatever dryer as long as it's 7 cu. ft. or over.

My vent set up is definitely way short, no more than 3'. I think I remember our other LG dryer had the flow sense indicator go off as well but not very much.

The vent cover works like it should, I even checked that when I looked through the hose not too long ago. The only place I haven't checked yet is inside the dryer, maybe I might take it apart and see if there's any buildup to be the culprit. Or maybe the lint filter has another design flaw where it doesn't breathe very well? I have to get a replacement screen for it anyways so I could get a generic one and see if it breathes any better or not.

We had a slight leak from our washing machine door which were caused by a trivial amount of limescale on the door glass. Cleaning the glass with a limescale remover cured it. I also polished up the paintwork with some wax polish spray, to try to protect it if/when it leaked again.

Oh and another thing I like about our LG, this morning our power went out for a split second and the washer already had a cycle going so it too went out. When I powered it back on, there's a PF code meaning power failure but if you press the start button, it remembers and continues the cycle it was on before the disruption.
