Just purchased a brand new Speed Queen top loader. Having the same problem that all "laundry freaks" have. I need to see what's going on inside while this wonderful machine is making miracles. My machine doesn't look the same on the back as the pictures you've shown using the clothespin trick. Is there a different way to bypass the lid switch on the newest models. Mine is model# AWNE82SP113TW01
with digital controls.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi Cathi,

Congrats on the new machine! Recently I bypassed the switch on a late model mechanical control machine. I thought it looked different from the photos others have shared here also, but I have a hunch that the clothespin trick would have worked.

I wanted something more permanent, yet easily undone. I disconnected the switch and jumped across it with a splice connector. The switch is under the control panel at the top of the machine, but I'd suggest the clothespin trick if you are squeamish about working inside the machine on the wiring...

One thing to keep in mind IF you do use a jumper wire.   As the machine has electronic controls, it may require a "lid switch open" after a cycle completes and before starting the next cycle.   Both my Kenmore Elite Catalyst and WP Calypso do this.  If I try to start a new cycle before "opening the lid", it throws an error code.  As both machines have the lid switch jumped, I have to unplug the washer after use.

Kevin,

I hadn't thought of that, but perhaps they did add that bit of monitoring in there!

Sounds like you need to add a small pushbutton switch on the side of your console. Then you just have to give it a push to 'reset' instead of cycling the power!

Phil,

I have thought about adding a button or momentary toggle, but each machine also has an electronic gremlin.  If I leave it plugged in (or even sometimes during a cycle in-progress), it beeps as if someone is pressing the "normal" cycle.   Fortunately this gremlin hasn't figured out where the "start" button is, LOL.  So I just unplug when the cycle is complete.
