Light question

I got this lamp for free at a yard sale. Does anyone know how old it is or who made it? The shade is not really plastic, but not paper either.

50's early 60's. It's quite possible there was some sort of ashtray that sat on top of the light or is it too short/low to have sat beside a couch or chair then it was probably just a lamp
