Linen Wash

Hi All!
Has anyone ever heard of or used a product called "Linen Wash"? It is sold thru Scandia Sheet Co. and smells exactly like Solo detergent from the 80's. Directions say use 1/4 cup per wash load. There is a faint smell of alcohol as well. It's a new one to me.

Speaking of linen. Did you ever catch that show The Worst Jobs in History. One episode was about how back in the 14 or 1500s maybe earlier, I can't remember the time frame, after the linen was woven, it was whitened by being trod on for hours in barefeet in urine filled buckets. The host of the show actually did the job, the urine was supplied by the crew members. It's the ammonia in the urine that actually whitened the linen.

I was just thinking about this and you know I may have led you all astray about the urine used for whitening the newly woven linen. It may have been more for softening it.

Our local "French" hand laundry, who also does textile restoration says "Linen Wash" is not highly regarded by professional laundries, nor textile restorers. Most say it's no better than Woolite at worst, and will clean well if the items are not that dirty at best.

Our local Chambers outlet store had tons of the stuff on clearance a few summers back, but I never bothered. Prefer fine liquid wash by "Planet".

I use it for all my linens!

I have been using this for years. It was recommended to me by the store in Tampa, Fla. where I get all of my good French linens. Does a beautiful job. Mark
