The Women
I saw a clip for the 2008 "version" of "The Women" last night and from what I did see, it appears it is only loosely based on the original. Nobody was giving birth in the 1939 version, and there is absolutely no way the dialogue could possibly improve on the original. I can understand that today a Reno divorce isn't the only way to do things, and that this entire important segment of the film wouldn't apply anymore, so I don't get what the motivation was behind doing a remake. I think I'll wait for the DVD, and maybe wait some more even after that hits the market.

This particular version has been in the works for a VERY long time now. Probably got done simply because it was the only way to recoup any of hte costs. More likely than not will be one of those films that is released only for a few weeks before going right to DVD/VCR, and or the overseas market.
Nothing has ever improved over the original 1930's film, nor the play. Not only have times changed, you simply do not have many actresses today, able to carry the sort of high comedy like Miss. Russell, and the rest without looking like tired old drag queens or bitter and catty bitches. Oh don't get me wrong, there is plenty of bitchy behaviour running around the 1930's film, but it's done sooooo well, and with no profanity.

"So help me I'm gonna slug you"!
"Oh Stephen, it doesn't matter, I'll have another birthday next year"
"You'll have another birthday next week"!
