I went back to the flea market today after seeing this Celebrity II last week and pondering. He came way down in price so I took it. Overall it's in not bad shape except for some paint wear along the top circular ridge and also the Hoover decal on the powerhead needs smoothing and regluing down. This is one with wheels though I'd have preferred a floating one. And all those electrical cords wrapping around the hose sure makes for an ugly sight. Ben's ok with it.

Here's mine...

I found this in someone's garbage pile. The hose caught the corner of my eye as I was passing.. so I threw the car in reverse, popped the trunk, and in it went. It was pouring rain, too. I let it dry out for a few days, then took it all apart, and cleaned it up. I did have to replace the powerhead neck. It is a floatey one, too! And aside from some scrapes on the wands, it cleaned up really nicely!

I took the picture on a backdrop I thought was perfect for the machine! My grandparents built a house in 1974, and installed this green shag in one of the bedrooms. When my mom bought the house a year and a half ago, we replaced all of the carpeting.. But I had to rip that shag up myself and save it! It's too dreadfully wonderful, I thought. So, in the basement it went! Sometimes I wonder if I should vacuum it or mow it...

when i saw that pic, and read the first few words of the text, i thought the celeb was photographed on the lawn after being found! and what LUSH grass... David

Oh that ones so much nicer than mine... course I haven't cleaned it yet... but I sure like the electrified hose better. Now who's the expert on what year these are?

ages

Pete your machine is Canadian, so my infor may be off a bit, but here in the US the model Fred has ran from 75-78 or so, which is when the air-ride series was dropped(the suction only canister may have gone a little longer) after that they all had wheels of some sort on them
I'd guess your machine is 1979-1980 somewhere around there.

Great find Pete; you'll love the Celebrity cleaners and I'm envious that you found a Celebrity II! I see yours has the non-electric hose (which you might want to untangle by the way...LOL ;-)) and extra-long P/N cord, unlike Fred's.

Fred, BEAUTIFUL Celebrity II, and definitely catalog-fresh there! That shag carpeting is awesome; yes, at first I thought you set it on the grass for the picture.

Jeff, when you stated that the Celebrity II like Fred's ran from 1975-1978, were those the only years the Air-Ride option was offered on the P/N-equipped Celebrity vacs? Did the Celebrity make its debut in the US in 1973 as well, and was the first P/N-equipped Celebrity introduced around that time? Would be interesting to know...
