US Coca-cola with sugar is still made.

Nationally you can find it during around certain Jewish High Holy Days (one assumes the corn syrup stuff is not Kosher for Passover or something), otherwise the stuff can be found in limited US distribution.

Some persons have been known to have cases of the sugar version of CC shipped across country because they like the stuff that much.

@vacbear58 I usually make them from scratch too, but sometimes I might actually use something like one of the Lloyd Grossman ones as a base but add my own vegetables, a lot of extra garlic and possibly tweak the herbs quite substantially.

There's absolutely nothing in them other than what you'd expect to find in a pasta sauce you make yourself really. I found in quite a few other places the equivalent products are like what was here in the 1980s/90s - really artificial tasting and over processed.

You can regularly get 3 Pepsi brands in the sugar "Throwback" versions at groceries across the USA... They include Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper... The Mountain Dew is downright addictive, and not because of the caffeine...
.
Salad Cream... Tried this after I heard it was like Miracle Whip... It isn't... I found it to be bitter... It is currently languishing in the frig...

Salad Cream is something that I'd associate with another era entirely. It was 30+ years ago.

I find a lot of these products are kind of 'nostalgia items' rather than what people in Britain or Ireland actually tend to buy in reality.

OK, the teas, biscuits (cookies) and some others are main stream products but things like Salad Cream, Marmite, the powdered sauce mixes and a few others are most definitely things I'd consider kind of belonging to the same era as Cheezwhiz.

I guess maybe they're nostalgic to expats who want to remember the 1970s ?

"American Breakfast"

I agree that eggs, bacon, and hash should be on a separate plate. All too often they're not :-( Even as a kid the idea of pancake/waffle syrup just grossed me out. To this day I won't order any kind of mixed breakfast like that for fear of getting it all served on one plate... eggs with maple syrup?? No, thanks.

I'm kind of the same way. Don't bring me a complete dinner with everything piled on top of each other on the plate. I need separation. If there isn't enough room to separate, a separate plate please.

I think this comes from when I was a little kid my father used to "help" me with my plate and after the meat and potatoes were on the plate he'd always pour a bunch of vegetables all over everything. I asked him no to do that and the response was always the same "They all get mixed together in your stomach, so what are you griping about" OR "there are so many kids starving in this world and YOU are worried about how your food is arranged on your plate." So just like we don't have one plastic cup or glass in the house, I always make sure my food is very independent on my plate. [this post was last edited: 5/11/2014-15:42]
