So i found an interresting video on Youtube of an faulty Servis machine trying to spin. Well i can tell one thing... This machine aint going to spin or wash anymore.

A similar thing happened to me once, but more about that later.

Now. First about this machine. My guess is that the bearings had totally failed in this machine. Its strange really. When the bearings fail in these machines, the drum (almost) never really seize. They do become harder to turn around and makes a bad sound. In the first video you can clearly see and hear the machine is trying to keep up the speed. That is, until the fuses blowed.

Then of course its smoking from the drum due to the failure or maybe that the heating was faulty and set to ON. But i belive more at the "bearing failure" theory.

I told in the beginning something similar had happened to me. Well, here goes.

I had an Gorenje machine that was quite good. Just after the warranty had expired (2 years) the machine started doing strange noises. They were worst when the machine spin.

I suspected the bearings was faulty but when turning the drum and doing the test, they seemed fine. The noises diasappared for a while, then came back at regular intervalls.

Then one day it started doing the noises again. I wasnt very surprised and thought nothing about it. Later on the final spin (1300 rpm) there was this loud bang that happened every 6-7 seconds approx.

I entered my bathroom and checked on the machine. It smelled somehow a little burnt in there so i turned off the machine. Just short after i stopped it, smoke started to rise from the back, under the top and under the left side.

I just get going WHAT THE F***K. THE MACHINE IS BURNING. My girlfriend came running and wanted me to call the fire man. Of course then the fire alarm went off and we removed it.

I dont know what REALLY caused this with my machine. I never bothered to call Gorenje Service. Instead i bought an Siemens machine.

Anyway, theres a good saying you should never use your machines when you´re away or sleeping. These two incidents clearly show why.

That is indeed a bearing failiure. One of the most common causes for the death of a front-loader.

several years ago I was renting a Hotpoint FL and the bearings went during the spin cycle. The noise was bone shattering and I turned off the power. Once I got the laundry out, I found that I couldn't turn the drum at all, even with both hands. I will never forget the noise though!!
