Hey chetlaham, have you heard the latest GE dishwashers running? They have the electrical hum of the drain pump.

I haven't heard a GE dishwasher recently. Modern appliances I tend to stay away from for the sake of my happiness lol.  But if they are wet rotor pumps GE is back to taking at least one thing seriously. Across the line AC motors have the longest life expectancy, reliability and durability by far. About the only place brushed motors are practical is in hair dryers, mixers, drills and similar appliance/tools where the number of hours per year run time is limited.

Kitchen Aid Dishwasher Replacement

I have a Kitchen Aid KDC20A dishwasher, and have been using it for decades, but now the finish on the interior is worn out with some metal showing. It has been patched with Kitchen Aid paint. Upper dish rack structure is rusting. When wash is completed dishes still have detergent residue on them, (strainer is clean).
Should I find another vintage machine to replace it, or opt for a newer one? With the new machines, the wash times are ridiculously long due to filtering the water.
From the thread here the motors don't last long either.
How long will Cascade keep making the powder for these machines? It is a guess.

If you're happy with the KD-20, try finding another one. They're getting a bit tricky to locate now that most have been recycled but they're still out there. The portable ones generally have the least use/wear and can be modified to work in a stationary cabinet. Otherwise, you're stuck with a modern dishwasher that takes an average of 2 hours for a complete cycle.
