Look what I delivered Sunday

During my trip this weekend, I found this 1912 copper Easy wringer, and after a few texts to my boss/friend Melinda, it was being loaded carefully into the back of my car for a 250 mile trip home, to be displayed in her shop with the sewing machines. Though the pics dont do it justice, it is in amazing condition. The gas burner underneeth to heat the water is still present, and the machine still runs beautifully. I will try to get some better pics Thursday, but I had to share.

Its the plunger type agitator, and while I doubt its cleaning ability compared to a regular agitator, I gotta say, it looks cool.

There is a vid in Youtube of a machine just like this running. It IS pretty cool, I must admit... Like you, I doubt it's cleaning ability, but still. Off the charts coolness! Congrats on the acquisition...

When I was little we went to a small museum on the Iron Range and they had one of these machines on display - - and it worked ! Needless to say I myself had no desire to continue the rest of the tour as I was transfixed! I remember the tour guide mocking the agitation "o you're clothes sure as heck aren't gonna last very long in there . "

Actually, these machines probably worked fairly effectively, as their motion was similar to Frigidares jet action. Although slower. there was certainly enough water movement, and with rotation, even action. And remember, this sure beat grating your knuckles on a wash board. What a breakthrough. What a collectible!

I can't wait until you get this up and running and do a wash in it. I bet this will clean better than you think it will. Hot water and Tide, yep, I think you will be surprised.
I remember seeing an old "Our Gang comedy" where they put one of the kids in the washer and he went up and down in it.I bet that was one of these Easy machines?

of the pulsator in chrome with bigger plungers and curvy pretty arms.

 

These machines are amazing. Congrats Kevin. So neat to know that we did make machines that heated, and now you have one. Awesome.

Is it just me or do you think an Easy engineer stared at the curved arms on the unique agitator in the video of the early machine and came up with the later curved spiralator as shown in the attached picture?

My eyes see a distant resemblance even though the action changed from up and down to back and forth! The cap is even a tribute to the chrome 'plungers' on the old style.

Yes, Patrick,

I can see the silhouette of the Spiralator and chrome dome to come, with the curves on the way, and the current moving one way. You see the plungers moving ever forward, just as he motion of the water current in later Easies is identical around the edge of the tub.

 

Speaking of possibility, have you been watching the Quantum Physics stuff on PBS with Brian Green? Things can come into and out of being in a billionth of a billionth of a second. Maybe the Frigidiare Wringer was here once after all.

 

Aside from all of that, this is a mint machine. Is it yours, and what's the story? You teaser, you !

It's not mine..

Sadly this beautiful beast isnt mine. My boss purchased it for her shop, I just picked up and delivered it. I was hoping to have time to play with it on a slow day, but she has already re-sold it.
