Wow, that's a beautiful machine----and so high-tech, too! I love that the screen reads MAIN MENU. I live in a rural part of the upper midwest and don't get to see many Miele appliances. I think the only Miele dealership in the state of Minnesota is in the Minneapolis area. Do you have Miele laundry appliances, too? I know they are considered to be 'state of the art' machines.

Really a beautiful machine.
I know it has also a special cycle for beer's glasses (it doesn't use rinse agent so the beer can do its typical foam).

Mielerod, i've seen in your yahoo photo album the shots from the Miele museum, where is it?

I don't think I've seen that model, which now means a stop at my local dealer. Did you install it yourself? I did mine with the help of a friend and it wasn't as difficult as I was presuming, a little fiddling with the drain connection and it set to go. Haven't heard a peep from it in over 5 years now. The best Miele deals have always been during local "Home Shows" at the exhibition grounds, you can buy their show display models and often they'll have extra show specials of a particular model brought in much less than the regular price. That's how I got mine. I've never regretted buying it

Congrats. What a beautiful machine!

Interesting thing about the "Beer Glass" cycle, that sounds like an admission that the rinse agent is still in the glass and that we all drink it!!

I always thought of rinse agent in the final rinse of a DW as kinda nasty! But hey, something has to kill you eventually.

Also don't like fabric softeners in the last rinse... why would you want that chemical touching your body? I usually stick softener in the "Bleach" portion of a dispenser in those machines (usually F/L) that dispense the contents of that space into the first rinse.

What other KEWL features does this model DW have? Interior light fan-forced dry?

As I write this message I have the dishwasher running on sensor wash. The machine has touchscreen glass control panel, its taller than the previous series by 1 cm, its now 85cm tall. You can now wash up to 31cm dinner plates and with a special insert up to 35cm. There is a cycle called 'without upper basket', this is where you can take out the middle basket and wash vases and baking trays. The machine retails for AU$3299 which is expensive, but since I work in the appliance business I got a great deal.

Good Lord, that would be a $2558.00 machine in USD! I really hope you really DID get a good deal, for that kind of money, I'd want the machine to grow legs, load itself, then put them away afterwards.

Well some of us like to pay for decent, good quality appliances. I think it's worth every penny...

If the machine did everything itself then it'd spoil the fun of using the appliance IMO.

True, but it seems there's a point of "diminishing returns" where the extras you get don't really seem to justify the extra cost. They have to start "gilding the lily" with gadgets and geegaws to justify the extra price since after a certain point the washing ability can't be improved anymore. The difference in quality and washing ability between a $200 machine and a $1000 machine is MUCH greater than the difference between a $1000 machine and a $2558 machine

Price Points

Its important to note, that yes the Miele is very expensive, but they start from about $1200AUD

In australia, a cheapie dishwasher is $500-600AUD

A normal priced dishwasher is about $1000-$1200

A mid range miele is about $2000

The quality difference between our domestic stuff and the Miele is unbelievable. With the Miele up to about $2200 the cost is justifyable.

However I dont think I can convince Michael to spend the $3200

These are all much higher than the starting prices you have in the US, and probably why we hang onto appliances longer

There's no need to buy to TOL or mid range Miele DW..go for the lowest priced one like I did. Other than custom fronts or hidden controls the machines are more or less the same for half the cost. Besides..you don't want it camoflouged where no one see's it particularly yourself. That's the G865 behind Ben with the Turbothermic option and the plain old cutlery basket rather than the tray, which you can buy separately and add on later. I still figure the tray is more fuss than the basket and blocks the top spray arm from cleaning the top rack as well as when it's not in there.

Price differences

In australia, a cheapie dishwasher is $500-600AUD (US$385-463)

A normal priced dishwasher is about $1000-$1200 (US$772-926)

A mid range miele is about $2000 (US$1543)

One can get a "cheapie" dishwasher here for about US$200 (AU$259), so you're right, your starting price points are a lot higher than ours

FWIW, Miele base dishwashers sell at £350-£400 ($653-$747), mid range dishwashers £450-£650 ($840-£1214), and high end dishwashers £700-£1000 ($1307-$1868).

The crap dishwashers (Italian brands such as Indesit, Beko, Candy etc) start at £199 ($371), and you can get a decent dishwasher from £300 ($560). Bosch dishwashers vary from £250/$467 for the base (and crap IMO) model, to £500/$934 for the fully automatic model.

FWIW, I paid £660/$1233 for my Miele washer (a bargain as it was reduced from £900/$1681, and sells for £1100/$2055 on the high street), and it's worth every penny IMO.

In many countries people are buying with what we consider GROSS salaries and paying a V.A.T (Value-added tax)that is built-into the price of the goods.

Here we pay income taxes up-front and get NET (after-tax)salaries. In most places here, the tax must be separately disclosed and charged. Not necessarily so elsewhere.

This is why we (the US) attract and look so good to incoming laborers. The "CASH" (off-the-books)economy is basically untaxed and there is more buying power if you are not feeding Uncle Sam or payign a VAT that is unavoidable.

I had realtives come visit the US and bought a German washing machine from here to ship it back to Europe. Without the V.A.T it looked VERY inexpensive to them, even with shipping costs.
