GE Americano, refrigerator, bottom, freezer models
These are wonderful refrigerators. I have two of them. There’s a copper tone one in the museum kitchen, and I’ve had a white one as my primary refrigerator in the mountain house for over 25 years.
What seems to be wrong with yours? Is it running at all?
Most common problems with these the fan motor for the refrigerator section sometimes dies, and you get no cooling in the upper part but the freezer may still work, there’s also a fan motor in the freezer, but they usually cool pretty well without this fan if it dies. There’s a fan motor to cool the compressor if that motor goes bad the compressor will overheat and it won’t run enough to do much cooling because it keeps cycling on the thermal overload to protect the compressor. There’s also two thermostats the one in the freezer section makes the whole thing run if that goes bad the thing will be dead except for the lights. There’s a defrost timer that could fail that normally will cause it to have a heavy buildup a frost in the back wall of the freezer and you’ll lose cooling in the refrigerator section 1st the freezer usually stays pretty cool under these conditions. And there’s a thermostat in the refrigerator section that controls the fan operation for the refrigerator if this thermostat dies the refrigerator won’t cool at all, but the freezer may still work.
The worst serious problem with these will sometimes have is the compressor loses capacity and everything runs properly, but it will barely maintain proper cooling temperatures especially the freezer will not be cold enough to do more than freeze a little bit of ice, but it won’t keep things solid.
Some parts are still available for these if you’re clever
