I've been on the hunt for a GE Americana, preferably in Avocado, but Coppertone and Harvest Gold is ok too. 1969-1980 models. Been searching for quite a number of years such as Facebook Marketplace with no luck. Anyone have one they'd like to sell? I'm willing to do a roadtrip from Chicago.
Doug - I wish I would have known your desire for an Americana. It’s a long story, but these shots are from an auction of hundreds of NOS appliances I attended back in May 2019. Can’t imagine this sold for much.
They were great refrigerators, I grew up with a TFF24RVD in our kitchen which my parents bought in 1977, it was harvest gold. A few years later my Mom had the kitchen remodeled and she had ordered the aluminum trim kit and had it installed with black plexi glass GE panels, it was a great refrigerator, it lasted almost 25 years and the new owners of our house replaced it with a French door Kitchen Aid.
Finding NOS appliances has always been a dream of mine! What a goldmine there! Thanks for sharing the pics. Maybe lightening will strike twice. I can only hope!
I never thought I would see the day. I was only born in 1990. It was a little old when I was a kid but it came with the house. It had a black plastic front and a chrome grill on the front. I still remember the ice machine and little water dispenser. We recycled it when we updated the kitchen sometime in the early 2000's. The ice cubes were round little cylinders.
My cousin Mike had the 36"model in Avocado, just like in the Brady house. He bought it used sometime in the mid 80's. I don't know if he still has it or not, as I've not seen him for about 30 years.
I tried to talk my parents into buying one like that when I first saw them in 1969, but they weren't about to spend that much for a refrigerator. Besides, it was too wide for the space in our kitchen.
