Ok guys I need some help. My dad has agreeded to help get my own place and I"m so excited that I will finally have a place to hookup my KD-12 dishwasher among my other collection peices in storage. I checked it out and know it has a gravity drain but someone on the discussion forum creativly figured out how to hook up a sump pump in a bucket with the KD he owns. I can't seem to find it. I do remember that there are pictures of it. If anyone can find it please post. I got an e-mail a while back that a member might have a motor to replace too so I'm waiting on a response to that. Hopefully by Christmas I will be in a new place.

Here is the thread you were talking about...

When I used my gravity drain KDC-14 in the kitchen, I simply wired an electric pump from a Whirlpool portable washer in series with the motor and used it that way. The pump runs all the time the motor does, the drain valve controls the flow of water out of the machine. You couldn't hear the pump running when the dishwaser is running and the clothes washer pump evacuated the water very quickly in the fairly short drain period.

If the drain valve is electrically operated (eg a solenoid valve) then you could connect the pump in parallel with the valve instead of the motor. That way the pump would only operate when the drain valve was on, not all the time. In fact, the best way would be to disconnect the valve wires and connect them to the pump, then hold the drain valve open permanently using a piece of stiff wire to prevent the valve from closing. You might even be able to remove the drain valve altogether and run the drain hose direct from the sump to the pump.

I tried it, Chris, the solenoid is energized only when the valve is closed, holding water in the tank. The default position is drain valve open, solenoid de-energized so it's backwards for when the pump is needed. The drain valve is a heavy brass pipe arrangement that includes the safety overflow tube and is connected with the pump as one piece.
 
What you could do is install in series with the drain solenoid one of those reverse relays that when the relay coil is energized the drain solenoid is de-energized and vice versa. That's probably what I'm going to do to my KD12 when I get around to restoring it.
