I want to find a book showing the illustrated history of automatic dryers, any and all brands, electric, gas, whatever. Does anyone know of such a book? I'd love to get my hands on something like that.

Thanks for considering this request!

The first company to specifically make dryers was Hamilton, and Whirlpool/Kenmore and Maytag were the first to have their own designs in the late 40’s while companies while Frigidaire bought dryers from Hamilton and put their names on Hamilton built dryers so there was some sort of dryer to go with their Unimatic washer and Frigidaire did have their own design till about 1954 may be even 1953.

You are going to have to do what many of us have done and go to primary sources like industry or trade journals for articles.  Titles include: Appliance, Appliance Manufacturer, Electrical Dealer, Electrical Merchandising, Finish, Home Appliance Builder. You might find some of this information in Robert's Ephemera pages. Electrical Merchandising published an article about Ross Moore, the inventor of the Automatic Clothes Dryer in the July, 1957 issue as part of its 50th anniversary of the automatic laundry article. If you are interested, I can scan it and send it to you.

Hi Ben, I hope you have a good smoke and fire detector and don't go very far from your 1955 FD dryer when running it, that is not a safe way to operate that dryer.

There is lots of knowledge here about washers and dryers hopefully we can answer any questions you have.
