The fan motor on the drying unit in our KDS-17 recently burned up so I've been looking for either that whole assembly or just the motor. Upon removing the panel it seems clear that other parts will likely be needed for it soon. I've searched on here for the KDS-17 and most parts requests get directed to ebay or the like, so I've also been trying to identify the motor itself and possibly just replace that. The only thing it says on it is UPPCO CHGO which does lead to some hits on google, however I have no way of telling what amperage may be required. Also the shaft is quite specific, so I'm still working on those dimensions... if anyone has any specific info about that motor I'd love to hear it.

It really needs the whole assembly though as it's all rusty. It's tough figuring out the part numbers. The diagram on appliancepartspros and the like shows the assembly as being part R-85491-1, but searching google for that brings up nothing. Does anyone have any parts number translations?

Also if anyone has a hoard of these parts or even a whole parts washer near central Massachusetts, I'd love to hear from you!

i saw that complete

drying unit on e bay last week. i always search under "kitchenaid dishwasher parts" several times a month to see what's out there. in fact i see those drying units on e bay frequently. but they are still out there abd are easy to replace.

Seek and you shall find!!

Is this what you are looking for? Complete working assembly. This u nit is in very nice condition. Has the 800 watt element so it won't cook the right rear corner of your rack.

I was going to list it on ebay but like to offer these things to the members here first.

Send me an email and we can discuss the particulars.

Dryer Unit For KA DWs

Stevet will the shorter aluminum housing 800 watt dryer assemblies from the 18 and later DWs fit the older 15-17 KA DWs? I guess that it would not be hard to adapt one in any case either by mounting the whole thing a little higher or making a short extension for the outlet out of sheet metal, but just wondered if you have actually tried this and how well it fit.

I believe that is essentially what I need! It is virtually identical to it anyway. The motor on mine lacks that shield thing and the rear of the rotor housing has a slightly different look but as long as it will bolt in and not fry anything I will be happy. I will email you shortly. Thanks!

Good Question, Doctor J

John, you raised a good point. I do remember that the earlier machines had a longer outlet neck but I think these will work just fine by repositioning the mounting bracket to raise the housing up higher. As you can see in the first picture, there are 3 screws on the bracket that secures the bracket to the housing. You can move it down a hole which will raise the unit up. I have seen a few of these that were done that way and even some where a whole new set of holes were made to accommodate the blower unit.
Another way would be like you suggested, whereby you drill new holes in the side frame of the machine and move the bracket up higher than the original screws.

I have to admit that installing one of these was never a problem since I usually removed the machine anyway and I usually went the way of redrilling the frame holes. I used self drilling screws with a power driver so it was an easy install.

Does this help?
