Looking for Top Loader Recommendations

We are remodeling our wash room and I'm looking for recommendations for a quality, top loader that will last. Currently, we have an LG front loader that is the bane of my existence. It smells, we've had to replace several parts, the clothes never come out clean and I honestly can't stand constantly having to clean the rubber door parts and drain the gross liquid out of the bottom.

We have 2 little kids and 2 dogs, and I need something that will keep up with multiple loads of laundry a week (sometimes a day). Was leaning toward a Speen Queen but have seen mixed reviews. Also thought maybe the Maytag commercial but it looked pretty small in person and we usually put our washers through their paces. Would appreciate any input!

i would go with a speed queen top load washer they are top of the line also pretty good warenty

The Speed Queen (if it's not the useless swirling type -- do not even consider one of those) and Maytag are the top two options out there.  I wouldn't trust any other top load machine to use enough water or last longer than either the SQ or the Maytag. 

 

If a SQ washer with old school agitation isn't available anymore (I've stopped keeping track of whether SQ has come to their senses and abandoned the failed swirling system), look for a good used one.  My only advisory on SQ is that they're not the best at rinsing.  I don't know if Maytag is much better and I'm not familiar with differences in capacity between the two makes.  Others here can provide more information around that.

If you want a Speed Queen, the TC5 is what I would look into. Those use the old school technology similar to what their older models would use. The TR3/TR5/TR7 models is probably where you've heard mixed reviews from, I would stay away from those.

the speed queen classic. Always use the heavy-duty cycle for everyday loads.

If you end up getting the tr series,

get the tr7 and use the super soiled cycle if you need to along with auto-fill.

Looking For A TL Washer

Hi Ashley, The first thing to know if your current FL washer is not doing a good job is to learn how to use it.

 

For everyday loads ALWAYS use HOT water setting, Do not use the normal cycle, either use Heavy Duty, or whitest whites.

 

Use plenty of good detergent such as Tide, be cautious with using too much fabric softer in the washer or the dryer.

 

Use liquid chlorine bleach in the bleach dispenser when washing towels, bed linens , light colored socks and underwear, and ALWAYS on anything for the dogs and any household cleaning rags etc.

 

If you do these things you will never need to run a clean cycle on your washer again and your clothing will be clean.

  

I should add if your washer has a booster heater you can use that instead of LCB, however LCB works better and faster and probably costs less than the extra power the heater will use, LCB will also extend the life of your washer where as using the heater all the time may cause an extra service call at some point.

 

It might take a couple months to get the smell out of the washer and some of your clothing, it is also always wise to use the extra rinse option.
