Looking for Washer Dryer for Film Project

Hello!

I'm working on a film project being shot in San Francisco. Part of the film is set in 1976, and so we are looking for washers and dryers from the 1960's and 70's to use. I am looking for any information on where I might be able to find these, or anyone who might be able to sell or rent a washer or dryer to us.

Hi, and thanks so much for giving us appliance collectors a chance to help!

Some more information would be helpful, for this reason: Appliances come in all kinds of different styles, to suit the taste and income of prospective buyers. In addition, there used to be new appliance models each year. So:

- Are the characters wealthy, middle-class or working class?
- What exact year is the script set in?
- Are there any special color requirements?

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who look at movies and TV and know, instantly, that appliances are right or wrong for the period of the story *. Hopefully, we can help - there are a fair number of members in California and neighboring states. If budget permits and the need is there, other members are all over the U.S.

The scene will be set in a middle class home in Los Altos in 1976. I don't think we are looking for any specific colors right now.

Mad men coin op Maytags

Were the Maytags on this weeks episode in the basement laundry room with Meagan and her housekeeper of the correct vintage? They seemed too new to me. alr

You're in luck with Kevin - he has a very extensive collection.

The fashionable appliance colors in 1976 were:

WHITE - No explanation needed.

COPPERTONE - A deep chocolate-y brown, with edges "shaded" in a darker brown. A little passe by '76, but still available.

AVOCADO - A medium green, with edges "shaded" in a deeper green. Still acceptable in '76, but moving downscale from its late-'60s heyday.

HARVEST GOLD - A mustard-y gold, with edges "shaded' in a deeper gold. The most fashionable '70s color.

Putting together an entire set of major appliances (range, fridge, dishwasher and possibly a vent hood and a washer and dryer) in a vintage color can be challenging. White is much easier.
