The latest episode of LOST featured Jack in a "nice place at home". Specifically he's been shacking up with Kate and Aaron (Kate's adopted child, long story there). We saw Jack stumble out of bed in the morning, shuffle off to the kichen, and go through the motions of making a pot of coffee. The coffee maker? A stainless thermal carafe Cuisinart Grind'nBrew, exactly the same model as I purchased last year.

Only one problem. Jack pretended like he set the machine to brew, but all the machine did was give out a little beep. Not normal. No raucous grinding, and probably no water heating either.

Add that to the circa 2001 Kenmore HE3T front loader washer set in a Dharma Initiative station build in the '70s, and the LOST set designers need to consult with US before committing more such egregious but entertaining prop errors.

Well the Kenmore washer controversy has been beaten to death on a number of forums, and the consensus is they were dropped shipped when the old pair gave up the ghost.

As for the coffee pot isn't there an option for using ground coffee?

Yes, there's an option for using ground coffee, but it doesn't beep.

Playing with my coffee maker, the only way I could get it to beep was to fail to insert upper grinding chamber or fail to close the upper lid. Then, if either immediate brew or programmed (delayed) brew knob were turned, it would beep in a tone identical to what we heard on the show, but instead of just a short double beep, it does a series of double beeps indefinitely.

My conclusion: Jack didn't insert all the grinding chamber parts. From his hand position it looks to me like he turned the delayed brew knob. In any case, I figure the show sound editor simply erased the subsequent beeps from the sound track. Probably the coffee maker wasn't even plugged in, and the sound editor added in the beeps to make it seem like he'd set it up correctly.
