LOVE PUREX TABS in MOUNTAIN AVALANCHE!!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

They stopped sell Wisk dual action tabs here VERY STUPID move on their part. But Purex picked up the slack and are selling their tablets. They have two scents the Mountain "Avalanche" is my favorite!! It smells similar to Mountain "Avalache" by Downy. For an HE detergent they really foam up in my GE Combo but it all disappears when the drain cycle kicks in.

I love tablets I loved Salvo in the sixties! Any try the purex tabs yet??

Did you love the Wisk Tabs? I can look for them here and send them to you. Funny you mention Salvo. I remember when they first came out in the early '60s. We got a couple of them in the mail as a promo. Mom tried them, even buying a regular box full of them (they came in plastic sleeves as I recall) but she did not continue using them, going back to "Fluffy All". I remember them as pretty good sized tablets---like a bloated bisquit! You jogged a memory---don't recall the last time I saw them---when did they discontinue marketing them? Georgedon recently introduced me to Fab powder with the "spring magic" scent. I really like it and it is sudsless--perfect for 1-18. --Steve

Got hooked on the Purex Tabs last year along with two of my childrens and their families. They are now gone from our market. We have a top load Amana and they have the FL Frigidaires. Nothing like them for cleaning. Using Wisk and Purex HE liquid now. Will go back to Sears detergent (powdered) we think.

Hi Jet! I was in the habit of using Purex and Wisk tabs all the time, and haven't been able to find either in an age. I thought they were a great idea and wish they'd caught on more. I won't complain if they suddenly reappear! The Purex tabs I thought were an especially good value.

they are cheap and good

I've use the purex tabs in my hettie and they are great. They are also cheap, especially if no one is running a special on the other HE detergents. I have to see if the new scent has hit the islands yet.
All this talk about tide from china & ariel from MX got me to thinking. I am going to start checking out some of our more "local" style groceries such as Ah Fooks, O'okas, Pukalani Superette, or Komodos. They may have some bizzarro detergent from asia or the phillipines-I know when we went to Komodos a few weeks ago the had things that looked like they had been sitting there since 1946. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to find that they have an old box of Burst, Punch or Cold Power sittin' round there. I'll post everyone if I find something not carried by the "haole" Safeway

Purex Tabs in FL's

I picked up a box of Purex Mountain Avalance tabs a few weeks ago, but haven't yet opened it. I've never used tabs in my Bosch Axxis before, but am thinking I should start with only one tab on a full load, directly in the tub (not the dispenser). Suggestions anyone?

You should only use one tablet for a full load. The Purex Tabs will dissolve quickly, so you can put them in the detergent drawer(if it fits). Purex's website even showed how quickly the tab dissolves. The Wisk and Surf tablets had to be put in the washer, because they took a while to disolve.

Purex no longer markets the TABS, but continue to market the Purex he liquid. We finally got the liquid in our area this week.

Wow Local markets

I think the soap manufacturers shift their product around to different markets beacuase we just got the Purex tabs and then we just just got the Mtn Avalanche so they appear to be very new products to us.

Hi Scott if you want some I can mail you a box.

If they are going to be temporary I am going out and getting a case right now!

salvo tablets

I remember my Mother using Salvo tablets....and its competition...VIM tablets in the '60s....used two of one brand and four of the other (don't remember which was which) for a "full" load in my mom's 55 Frigidaire. I think Vim was blue and Salvo was white...not sure....

All this sure brings back the memories. Purex are the only tabs we can get here now as well. I remember when Vim and Salvo both came out as well, seems like it took three or four tablets of Vim for a load and I seem to remember they were smaller in size than Salvo. Fluffy All oh that was my all time favorite. Just loved the smell of it. I sure would like to find a vintage box of that. Interesting Steve about the Fab powder being suds-less, I will be giving that a try for sure. Thanks all for the memories. Terry

I have lots of the Wisk tabs left, bought a bunch last year before they disappeared - my favorite for towels in the unimatic and a heavenly smell from the Filtrator!

I've used the Purex tabs - good performance and light, clean scent. I've not seen the Mountain Avalanche flavor yet, will have to look for them.

Greg - I managed to grab a few boxes of Wisk tabs before they disappeared completely. Found them at the "Compare Supermarket" (calidad, precio, servicio!!!) in Bridgeport, CT, the next city over. It is actually a full line supermarket but loaded with Puerto Rican, Mexican, Dominican and South American products.

I am thrilled with the cleaning and the light fragrance and cannot remember for the life of me why I ignored them before and thought the fragrance too heavy. Interesting, though, I have searched every dollar store for miles and have for months and have found neither the Wisk or the Surf tabs. Seems like they just disappeared - so I am hoarding my remaining 5 boxes of Surf tabs and the three boxes of Wisk tabs.

A few other things I noticed recently. A different discounter - National Wholesale Liquidators has boxes of Canadian All powder. The box is the same size as the 40 load size of US All. However the Canadian version sells for $1.99 and does only 12 loads. Apparently not an "ultra" powder - since the paper measuring cup that is included holds 1 1/2 cups of powder - no wonder it only does 12 loads. It is a regular sudsfest but it has a great fragrance - slightly sweet and floral as many of the Canadian detergents do.

Another Canadian product I always see there is Surf - "frais de citron". Apparently in Canada both Surf and All are the bargain brands. The Surf comes in huge boxes for $2.99. I tried that a few years ago and honestly that too sudsed like a bandit and neither product delivered particularly great results.

Speaking of Surf - it looks like the Surf name is going away again (last time was in the late 60's). While in Wal Mart, I spotted bottles of the Spring Burst and Bright Sky liquid - but the new labels no longer even carry any reference to Surf at all - they just say "All". I suspected that would happen eventually - oh, well.......

Finally, I see that even the liquid versions of Fab are getting harder and harder to find. All of my markets - Stop&Shop and Shaws's no longer carry any Fab. And of course the powders have been out of the Northeast for a few years already. Occasionally, you do spot a few stray boxes of Rain Forest Powder at the dollar stores. Last time I saw any though, the box design had changed slightly - more importantly, though, the ingredients have changed - the enzymes are gone. I wonder if that will significantly affect performance. I do wish manufacturers would quit playing with the formulas. They complain that certain brands are dying - but it seems to me that they play an active role in killing them.

Purex tabs

Maybe it's just me...
I tried Purex tabs when they first came out. Still have some, I think. Anyway, it seems to me that whenever I used them, the wash came out smelling like a dirty ashtray! Never seen...er...smelled this before in a detergent and thought it was pretty gross.
Mayhap I'll try it again in my Frigidaire FL, but I'm pretty pleased with the Sears powder I've been using. Can't say I notice any particular smell, but at 10 bucks for a year's supply, can't do any better than that!

Amgus -- If you are getting Canadian detergents up there, have a look for Lemon Tide. It's not Ultra and has a wild lemon scent. I guess Surf and Tide are head-to-head in Canada, but I understand the Sunlight for washers is really the market leader up there.

Any comments, Eddy?

Ajax powder

Does anyone know if Ajax laundry detergent still has that great scent they used to have?I have not been able to find it at my local supermarket.
I was on their website and see that they do still make a powder.I always thought that was one of the best smelling detergents ever,....don't know too much about it's cleaning power though.

Anthony - good to hear from you!

I didn't know the Wisk tabs were doomed until it was too late, all gone from the stores. I have one unopened box of 30 pkgs. (60 loads in standard cap. washers) and about 15 pkgs. from another box.

I found a big box of Fab w/ softener at a sale a few weeks ago - always hated that stuff but I couldn't let it fall into the wrong hands! ;-)
