Ajax powder is sold in almost every supermarket in NYC. See it all the time but never bother with the stuff.
Saw a box of Tide Lemon at a Dollar Store in the Village, but passed as Tide products are notorious for being high sudsing and there wasn't any indications it could be used in front loaders. IIRC the box may have been in French or maybe French and English. This store had quite allot of detergents in French, so I'm guessing much of the stock came from "up North".
Wisk Tablets,
A local discounter had TONS of them, and I never picked up any as it was sold in the supermarkets and had coupons for free boxes to use up. Was totally blind sided when I heard Wisk tabs were being discontinued and made a dash for the discounter, but he was totally sold out.
Purex tabs were at one supermarket in our area, but alas they are now gone too. Asked a clerk would he be restocking, but he said they were discontinued. There is one dollar type store that has some in stock and I'm tempted to nab the few boxes he has left. Silly thing is had one box I got from Target when they discontinued carrying Purex tabs, and gave it away.

We used both Vim and Salvo when they were "hot" market items in the 1960s. The neighbor next door used both in bonth of her Lady K Combos.
PeterH, if memory serves me right, Mike (NMaineman36) would get the Sunlight laundry detergent when he'd make laundry supplies trips to Canada. It was his favorite if I remember right.

I have actually found some Liquid Lemon Tide at a NYC discounter. The lemon scent on this one was pretty appealing. I have also spotted some small boxes of what I call Soviet Tide in "Alpine" and Lemon scents. Both are good scents and do a fine cleaning job. Too bad I cannot read any of the instructions!!!
Yesterday at the Compare Supermarket, I found some bags of Salvadorian Rinso in Citron and Fresh scents. Obviously made by Unilever and has some reference to "azul Omo" on the label. I will report on the results when I open them.

To all of you thank you for informing me that dummby Purex has cancelled Purex Tabs! I went out early this morning after voting to Shaws and found them on WAY LOW Sale and Supply! So I bought up everything in three Shaws! They cost $2.29/box down from $4.65!!! I should have enough for several years worth now! I got screwed on the Wisk dissappearing and was determined not to let that happen again!
What is wrong with laundresses in our country!! One Tablet Toss in and BOOM BOOM DONE! I hate fussing with cups'npowder or cups'nliquid! Have people forgotten how to connect the dots??? Tablets are it! WAKE UP!!! Your life is passing by!

It seems that at one time i used to see Ajax all over,now rarely,and when i do see it, it is the liquid version.
I have to get a box,as i have never used Ajax laundry detergent before.Hope it cleans well.

I don't mind about the suds,...my dd KM washer with the DAA couldn't kick up enough suds on it's best day,....mostly foam,though i do find there really isn't a problem with suds-lock often.

Someone once posted that Miele techs recommend Ajax detergent for Miele washers, but don't quote me on this.
Thought of this post today when down at the shops and went through the detergent asile. Sure enough there was the Ajax powder and liquid detergents. Seem to remember seeing somewhere an "ultra" version of Ajax detergent in the same sort of small cube box Tide and other ultra detergents come in.
If you really cannot find Ajax over there, and don't make it into NYC,let me know and will send you over a box. Darn things don't cost more than a few dollars. True "bargain" detergent, like Trend.

What is happening is the big detergent makers like P&G and Lever Bros are slimming down/closing/selling off plants for brands that do not sell "well" so they can be competitive in the gobal market place.
Look at Redox Brands who snapped up Oxydol,Biz,and a few other brands of once former greats. Biz was never a huge seller, but had a loyal following. IMHO Biz didn't do well because it was never properly marketed. One wasn't sure if it was an all fabric bleach or just a pre-soak. Clorox II came along and nabbed market share.
"National Wholesale Retailers", think this was the dollar store I stumbled upon in the Village. May have to go back down there and see what I can see, as they seem to have lots of "fun" detergents like the aforementioned Lemon Tide. They also had Arm&Hammer detergent in a box with French writing.

Since the price-point is low I wonder if the newer formulae Ajax is still "Stronger Than Dirt!" as their old jingle used to go. I wish I could play with all these different detergents, but I get my clothes really dirty playing out in the yard---not to mention good 'ole Georgia red clay! I have found that very few of the low priced detergents work for me. The worst I have tried were Arm & Hammer and Purex. The best I have tried is Tide. I have recently discovered Fab, and it works great---but--- I think it too is being discontinued---at least in powder form. I do wish the marketing "experts" would leave things alone! -Steve

I'm not hard pressed to find the Ajax detergent,i'm sure if i hit a few stores i will see it,i usually do all my weekly shopping at our shop-rite over here.
It was just a thought on detergents,and i remember how nice the Ajax used to smell.
I was using A&H detergent with my last machine,not a bad cleaner, but it clogged up most of the holes in the spin basket of the previous washer.
I have never experienced detergent do that before. Now i stick with Tide or All.
