Lubing amount: Maytag drive shaft

Ok, rookie here ready to do some maintenance suggested by some of you, (esp. Post# 626214, Reply# 11;9/20/2012 at 12:09am by DigAPony ). Removed the agitator; embarrassingly simple...and the shaft looks pretty dry- Maytag man was really lonely. Regarding applying lube: should it be enough to cover up the shaft in a 1/16" to 3/8" amount of Poly-lube or ..is it unparticular and just slap some Poly-lub on the shaft? (don't want to under/over do it).

Lubing MT agitator shafts

 

You just need the smallest amount of lubricant to coat the shaft especially if this is your machine and you will be able to redo it on a regular basis. It probably doesn't matter much what kind of lubricant you use, but I would use something light in color and sparing lee so it doesn't cause any clothing staining.

Combo2: I read somewhere, "a liberal amount". Good thing I didn't treat it like packing bearings and similar, on a car. Yeah, these are our only machines, so I'll keep them maintained.
