Made In America - ABC World News

I have been watching the Made In America story on the nightly news.  They removed anything and everything from this families house that wasn't American made.  Then, the searched to find replacement items that were made here.

 

There were some "I didn't know that" moments for me.  Like Viking Appliances.  I was unaware that they were made here. 

 

Unfortunately, they were unable to find a coffee maker made in the States.  Nor a TV, I believe.

 

Anyone else watched it?

One of my neighbors was telling me about watching this when I talked to her earlier today. Said it was very interesting.

Don't find it surprising that they couldn't find a US made TV. As for the coffeemaker, when I was at Wasserstrom a few weeks ago, I believe I noticed that the West Bend 55 & 100 Cup coffeemakers are made in their Wisconsin factory. Perhaps they meant a non-party size one could not be found.

I think the "made in the USA" is one of the marketing claims for Viking, Sub Zero, and perhaps Northland.

 

Sorry I missed this.  How did they determine what was made in the USA?  Did all of the components have to be made in the USA, or did they allow for the use of foreign parts in the appliance while having the parts assembled in the USA?

What about BUNN coffee makers?  Perhaps the home models are manufactured in China.  I plan to get one, because a BUNN coffee maker makes coffee that is better

, not bitter!

Strick Guidelines

They had very strict guidelines that had to be followed in order to qualify for MIA approval.  For example, the Keurig, they were told, was made in America.  However, after digging a little deeper into the manuafacturing process, it proved to be a false claim.  They didn't say specifically what failed the Keurig just that it didn't qualify.

 

Bunn - I believe the Bunn coffee makers are an American owned company, but much of the manufacturing is outside of the states.  It isn't enough that the product is assembled in the States, apparently.

 

It was a pretty interesting story.

I watched it..........................

I was sort of expecting to see a Speed Queen washer and dryer though, I was interesting to see that Sub-Zero, Viking, etc were all made in the US. It is sad though that we can't even produce an American made coffee maker. What about a good old fashioned stove top percolater? I suppose they are all made in China. There was a time though when Farberware Percolators were made in the Bronx NY.

True.  It was good to find out the Viking and SZ are made in the USA.  However, that SZ fridge was 8.6K.  Far beyond the reach of most Americans.
