Assessing D&M dishwashers in terms of performance and reliability is a matter of degree. If you luck into one that's pristine, has good and intact racks and porcelain, and you don't throw olive pits and leftover pea gravel into the unit--taking care to safeguard the impellers and, by extension, the carbon-porcelain seal--you may very well have a great unit on your hands. Like GEs, D&Ms perform via the serial dilution effected through many water changes.
Of course, we've been down this road many times discussion-wise, and there are people who will tell you that their D&M bit their daughter, traumatized the dog, vomited pea soup, peeled the paint from the walls, peed on the floor, and caused their property taxes to go up, all the while leaving a thin coating of unshifted food debris and locusts all over their dishes.

I actually really enjoy the discussions we get into on this site; I think the diversity of experience (and assessments of diverse designs that don't exist nearly to the degree that they used to) is fascinating, and almost embodies a reporting and testing mechanism that stretches far beyond the reach of Some Consumer Publications. *cough*
It's thanks to this site that I've had the pleasure of using machines I'd previously never encountered, and even developed a much broader sense of aesthetics. It's a great place to be. (And thank you for it, Robert.)
