Can anyone tell me how to remove the round/disc, plastic “catcher” from the tub of my WP 1982 SHU-400 series without breaking it so I can clean out smelly debris/mineral deposits?

There’s nothing in its original manual about it and I’m feeling quite foolish! I tried removing the spray arm and anything else that could be holding it down with no success. I really don’t want to risk snapping it broken as I cannot find any plastic tabs indicating a mere “pop-out” method, either.

Help me, Obi-Whirlpool Kenmorebies, you’re my only hope!

Hi, those filters snap out quite easily. They don’t need to be removed for regular cleaning so they weren’t really meant to be removed by the consumer, but we always had to remove them to replace the pump and motor for example and I never had any trouble doing so.

You just have to lift up the edge of the filter and flex it a little bit past those three tabs. You don’t flex the tabs to get the filter up, given time and age you might wanna pour a gallon of boiling water in the dishwasher and then pump it out quickly before you do this if you’re worried about cracking the filter, although we still have lots of those filter assemblies laying around There was never any demand for them .

I would think that if you just wanna clean the filter run some dishwasher cleaner through the machine you’re really not gonna find anything under that filter, etc.
