Making a shredmore earn its keep?

Well, I took out my rototiller and made some money today. But, there was so much dirt and sand in my old tennis shoes, I could never wear them without my socks getting dirty. On the outside, they're a shade of yellow/brown when they should be white. And I just emptied out about a bushel of sand, clay, stones, and fertilizer from them. There's still some more in there, I swear! How long do you all figure my transmission is going to survive this stuff? Will there still be a pump left? Will the agitator still have fins after the fact? Am I nuts for even attempting this stunt? Well, so what do you all think?

I think the pump may have a little challenge, due to all of the debris in the water. The agitator will get more battle wounds too. I think the transmission should be fine, just don't over load it.

What are we gonna do with you...dress him up but can't take him nowhere...next time do it nude, then a quick rinse with the hose, we'll try to remember that the water is cold...something tells me you really wanted to wrestle in the mud...what!, with no partner, where's the fun in that...some days were gonna have to B-SLAP you...but we love you just the same...that's why we keep you around...yeah that!, and your cute too! like a puppy...

in the mean time, how about plunging them into a bucket of sudsy water first and then into the dishwasher or a FL washer, and maybe some bleach...or just save these for tilling/gardening and get yourself another pair for leisure?

on another note: I have an agitator for a portable whirlpool, no top cap, just the agitator, did you still want it?

once you showered and soaped yourself up...let me know...rinse off first...if you want to...lol

From the mouth of a Sears service tech-DO NOT wash tennis shoes in a DD machine-the shoes could get wedged in between the side of the tub and the agitator vanes breaking the coupler-in BD machines the belt will slip for the moment the shoes jam the agitator-no harm.The Sears tech told me he replaced a lot of drive couplers from folks washing sneakers in DD Kenmore "Shredmores"

You could always fill the machine, let it agitate long enough to get the detergent disolved and then stop the machine and wash them manually in the machines tub using a scrub brush and vigorous swishing action with the shoes. Then you can spin them out.

And viola.... Shoes that won't get my socks dirty. Well, since this machine has proved its mettle, I'm beginning to take less animosity in it. It may not be the Filter Flo I once had, but it's not bad, really. Sorry about the cruelty, whirlcool .

Big feet? Try size 10 1/2. But I'll assure you, it's not photoshopped. And no, my feet don't have flippers like Flipper. Otherwise, I would probably look more like that big blue corkscrew under the hood. Wouldn't you think?

In two words, of course! But I still didn't get your email yet and I'm wondering if the server got jammed somehow. You know, I bet the message got stuck in the junk filter, and I have yet to figure out how to retrieve it. Fingering through that crap is about as much fun as cleaning the guts of an old dishwasher.

Durable

I own a Whirlpool (Shredmores)looks like the one picture. I wash at least 17 loads a week. The only thing I had to fix was replace the dog agits. But I do half-to wait till the washer fill with water before putting in the clothes. I make sure that I don't overload or my clothes will shred. I almost forgot my washer is 6 years old. I wash sneaker in it all the time. When I finally get a new washer, there will be no hope for it, and it would go to the junk yard.

This experiment with the tennis shoes was small potatoes compared to some of the abuse this machine had suffered. I have included a photo of the lid bottom, where the bumper was busted off and tab bent clear back from being slammed so hard.

was busted off at one point. I can position it, but it stays loose because of a broken tab.

And then there's the stripped timer

The plastic cover over the timer dial was shattered so the dial could be turned; and it's NLA. The knob is stripped. I found a way to remove the knob and dial, so the timer would be easy to replace. But should I invest the money for a new one?

Also, note the abrasion on the control panel, where the timer dial had rubbed against the finish. It's not too distracting, but it's definitely worn. My 30 year old Frigidaire 1-18 looks a lot better!

To the left of the agitator..

is a chip in the porcelain. Two were found on the insides of the spin basket. Also, the very bottom of the wash tub had lost its shine and feels a bit rough. I'm sure I could pick up a salvaged 3.2 cubic foot Whirlpool some place, and I'd be good to go.

Note: The chips were there before the tennis shoes, trust me. I'm starting to think that this machine must have been used to clean rocks!
