Curious if any of you have taken on the project of piecing together replacement door seal gaskets yourself (vs. buying ready-made ones)?

I have a SubZero side by side I'm going to part out which has VERY nice newish door gaskets--as there is ample length to work with, I'd like to remove them and use various lengths to craft a new freezer door gasket on a 32" wide bottom freezer door. They SubZero ones are an exact match to the white colour and thickness the old freezer requires.

My question, before I even start attempting this: how to weld/seal the four 45 degree corner cuts I will have. I'm sure this is done properly with some sort of heat sealing machine, but as I haven't got one of those, is there a liquid vinyl or other compatible material I could buy and use? I figured surely in this crowd one of you has done this before!

Many thanks~Allen

I agree with the silicone suggestion.  Back in 1990 I bought a 20 year old Whirlpool fridge for the garage and it had an area of the refrigerated section's door gasket up top near the hinged side that had been repaired with white silicone.  Nearly 20 years later when that fridge was given away, the repair had not been compromised.

If you use white silicone on the corner seams and smooth it out carefully, it will hardly be noticeable.
