LOL so the stove and/or the hot water heater must have been gas
why get an electric dryer instead of a gas one?

Their loss is your gain. What a beaut!

Hamilton!

Real nice dryer! Couple of questions, why did they call this a holiday dryer, didn't they have models with automatic cycles and what was the reason they went out of business? I think they stoped in the early 70's and wasnt the washers made by Norge?
Thanks,
Peter

Hamilton!

I should have known it was WCI that destroyed it. The appliance world would have been a different place if WCI never existed. It was definatly a curse to the appliance industry!

You know what we need? We need a anger management support gr

I know what you mean, I tried to replace the plastic stuff with the metal at the old house, and it thoroughly ticked me off, and I ended up going back to the plastic stuff. The vent was directly above the dryer, so there were no curves or bends, and I would check it every month for lint buildup.

In the picture with the door open it reminds me of a GE dryer that I had once. She a beauty!

Thump

Peter,
I wonder if the inner drum rolls on rollers? As in rubber wheels.
It could be that they have some flat spots.
I am sure that this will stop as you use it more and more.
I have dryers now that if I don't use them for a few weeks it has that thump thump thump sound. After the dryer heats up, and for the next few loads the sound is gone.
How many towels did you dry? Did they dry fast?
Do you remember Steve Riley's gas Hamilton? I am wondering how close in age it was it to yours. His had the Sun E Day logo and same window door as yours.
I bet you are loving this new dryer!

Thanks, y'all!!!

First, I'm not happy with the set up in the laundry room. I need to do some rearrangements in there before I post the next pics.

For one, I'm still using the Miele 1918 washer. I did about a 1/2 mixed load in it (undies, socks, towels, sweat shirt, etc), spun it out at 1200 rpm and then dried it as the first official load.

Dried in 20 minutes. I'm really loving this!!!

The Hamilton is a MONSTER next to the Miele. Because you cannot change the door orientation, I put the dryer to the right of the washer. Well, 4 things immediately became apparent.
1) The previous owners of my house had the dryer vented thru the floor. With this current set up, the right rear corner of the dryer sits in the hole, making it not real stable.
2) The dryer vent is right up against the 30 amp outlet. Now because I am using the Miele washer, I need access to the outlet to switch between the washer and the dryer.
3) The washer is in the corner of the room. Very difficult to load/unload. If I pull it out to be flush with the dryer, the cats will use the space behind the washer (and on top of the stupid aluminum dryer duct) as a playhouse and maybe an outhouse.
4) The dryer is next to the doorway. Being so much bigger than the Miele dryer, it is in way of accessing the room.

So that means I need to swap the washer and dryer locations. Will need to buy a longer 30 amp power cord to reach. And I need to reinstall the shorter stupid aluminum vent duct.

OTOH, this dryer is a TRIP to use in the dark!!! The light is on through the cycle, so you get a disco effect in the laudry room as the clothes tumble in front of the window. Sometimes the flashing light is white from the bulb in the back of the drum, and sometimes it is a funky ultraviolet blue light from the ozone Sun-E-Day bulb in the front over the door. There is also a halo of light around the back of the dryer as the white light escapes from the openings in the back. If you look thru the window, the drum light is on the right, but on the left you have the warm glow of the heating element. VERY ENTERTAINING!!!

If it wasn't for the thumping, this dryer is just about silent!

So, as far as dryers go, Hamilton gets EXTREMELY HIGH MARKS for washtime drama!!! I think everyone should go out and get one (or two... or three...)

@peter -- Someone more versed in Hamiltonian will have to let us know about "Holiday" and model numbering. Yes, Norge was the washer, with the wonderful window in the lid! ;)

@brent -- I'm going to be studying the Hamilton Repair Master to see about the thumping. Steve Riley's Hamilton I believe is in Beltsville at the Museo De LeFevre. If so, someone may have a pic of it. His had the D-shaped window (like the one in the POD Wisk ad), probably a much newer model than mine.

@greg -- If we never discussed this while I was driving thru in August, I would probably had not gotten it. Curse you! :) The pair in the ad you posted are stunning!

More Hamilton coming soon...

What a great find, Peter! It's great you found a "holiday dryer" just in time for the holidays. ;)

I saw a similar gas Hamilton today when I went to look at a very well taken care of Maytag J2LP. The link is for the washer. The woman whom I met with to look at the washer said that the dryer has sat unused for several years because the homeowner was no longer to get down in the basement. It's for sale if anyone is interested

Peter

does the dryer have a 3" or 4" vent? Any idea what year this machine was made?

all the best.....L.P.

4" vent... My guess is the mid-late 1960's...

I realized that the ozone bulb in the front of the machine over the door...If ozone gas is supposed to disinfect, it probably does not good because it gets drawn directly into the exhaust vent below the door, not through the load... What good is that?

I have been reading my Hamilton Repair Master... In that book, the machine diagrams have my control panel on them, but the inner workings are similar to the 47 and 57 that I have -- lint drawer on the bottom of the machine. I found a publication date of 1967, so my dryer must be later than that, or they just didn't update the text for the publication date.

@Jet -- I think your Bendix is more like the WP/KM except the air enters and exits thru the front of the dryer rather than the back. This Hamilton sucks thru back to front. The 47 and 57 Hamiltons suck top to bottom. While I had the Bendix, I was very pleased with it's performance altho' the improvements you suggest will probably improve it.

And I need to get a close up pic of the snazzier Sun-E-Day logo from this dryer.
