Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Paul, congratulations on beautiful machines. I have no doubt you will get all your projects done. (Maybe hubby will help some too). Big bear hugs Bob

don't worry

you'll get em all done, i have the same problem, too many machines and not enough time! i have a list as well, this one first, that one second etc.

just think, we won't have to worry about being bored for the next 30 years!

love your road trip pics and the westy set is so classic, so sleek looking, so "vintage". it's what this hobby is all about!

Paul the washer looks fantastic and your wash basket is mint! Congratulations! If you want that ad for the Laundromats I can forward them to you if you like. Good luck on the restoration.

Looks like an appliance factory in there

I don't know a thing about the motors, but do they humm or let off a smell or anything when plugged in. Now that you have another you could swap out parts to try to localize the problem.

gansky1: I will definitely check the capacitor - I am lucky enough to have a Westy washer service manual with pretty complete motor troubleshooting (thanks to my Westy Guru in MI!)

Darren: WOW! I would love those ads!! Please email me to let me know how much that will cost to send them!! THANKS!!!!

Northwesty: both motors are silent and no smells are given
off. Might something really dumb like wiring or as Gansky has suggested, the capacitor. I may have some starting winding issues too.. We shall see!!

1957 Westinghouse Laundromat Set in PINK!

So I bought the set for sale in Orlando.
I'm going to need a boot for the washer.
Any help in finding one or help with installation tips is greatly appreciated.

Oh boy... those boots were difficult to find back in '09!  I did get the washer restored, though,  by subbing a Q4699 (Space-Mate) boot for the Q4688 (slant-front) boot with a little extra door gasketing.  Others here have used 90s Kenmore or Frigidaire boots but I am not sure how easy they would be to find these days...

Kevin, here's a movie I made about the Canadian Westy twins in 2012 after both machines were restored.

I know I've said this about other machines, but these are going to be the ones that will likely have to be pried out of my cold, dead hands...  I hate to play favourites, but these are definitely on the short list.  AND both are still in use, prominently displayed so that anyone looking down into the Ogden Laundry will seem them first!  Sin of pride perhaps, but what can you do?  LOL
