LOL @ Philcobendixduo...

We had the "consolette", it was narrower than the one in your photograph. There were controls in a little compartment that opened horizontal hold and some other things. The color controls where above the compartment and not hidden. How many times did you all get in trouble for "adjusting" the color? This era color tv was high maintenance. The techs came out to "demagnetize" the screen. It was also not recommended to put metal decorative items ie: pictures frames on the TV. I think the channel number lit up in the little black rectangle. alr

In some early color TV sets-the unsheilded picture tubes could even be affected by the Earths magnetic feild.Place the set diffrently and the effect is gone. And the sets tube could be magnetized from kids or adults playing with or using magnets by,or in front of the TV.I have an older "Demag" coil-you used it before doing convergence, purity or other adjustments to the TV.Often the internal demag coil in the TV-wound on the sheild around the tube-was not always enough to demag the tube-the idea of the built in automatic demag was to demag the sets tube each time it was turned on.The hand held Demag coil also demaged other metal parts of the set-and don't keep the coil close to the TV's speaker too long-it could demag the speaker's magnet! This was not a problem for internal demagnetizers.

Growing up I remember my family had something that looked like this but I think it was a Zenith something or other. The speakers detached and the turntable folded down. I don't think there was a radio with it though.
