Hey all I got the new Consumer Reports and they have a small article about detergents. The top rated for Front Load machines are as follows... L= Liquid P= Powder

Great Value everyday elegance 2x @65 L

Arm and Hammer Clean burst w bleach @62 P
All 3x Small and mighty @62 L

I was kinda shocked that my beloved SA8 dropped in the ratings like it did. This rating report was kinda short and to me not a full one...why I dunno ..they were talking about the new generation of 2x detergents. Hopefully they will come out with a more extensive report.

The whole report has been downrated because----

they failed to even so much as mention our favorite Mexican imports--------I wonder why--------------(eyes to ceiling).

If performance was the most important factor in deciding which ones to favor----then obviously they are skewing their findings. Big surprise.

After using Viva, they cannot sell me on Tide or any of that other fekuckteh stuff they rated.

My two shekels.

As CR stated in their report (if one could call it that), and should note was covered here in the group months ago; Walmart laid down the law, it wished smaller compact liquid detergents to save on transportation and other costs. So detergent makers simply began to remove all that water to make their products more "concentrated".

Why do they keep doing this in steps, this is the third or fourth time they've concentrated their detergents. I remember buying those huge Tide boxes back in the '70s and then they just keep getting smaller and smaller. I also find it irritating that with the new 2x liquids the "normal' line is NOT the designed in line where the cap changes shape it's somewhat lower. I'm sure most people just fill to the very visible line and use more detergent.

Why not just go all the way now, go to eye dropper concentration, where you just need 5 or 6 drops of detergent and save a lot of space.

I think as time goes on we will see them get even smaller. When I use Persil Megapearls I use just 2 tablespoons for a big load. That box will last me a year...the price hurts at first a whopping $45 USD... but in the long run since it lasts all year its cheaper. Since I dont have to buy any more. Now that doesnt stop me from using Tide HE or anything else since I bounce from detergent to detergent... and being the detergent whore that I am I like variety.

Concentrate 'Em Some More!

I think the next logical step in the "Ultra" concentration of detergents is to remove all the water, thus forming a substance- unknown to many consumers- called a "powder".

The result could be packaged in a little-known, biodegradable, green container known as a "box".

Hi Steve. I am with you. CU did NOT rate any Mexican detergents. When I first started using Viva, I washed a load in Tide, then I re-washed the same load in Viva. I was amazed to see how much dirt Viva got out that Tide left behind.
Ever since then, Viva is the only detergent I will use.
