I recently acquired this very nice 641 C Maytag Dryer. I would really like to source up some spare parts. Does any one know where I can find a new door seal.

Halo of Heat dryer door gaskets

Greetings:

Many others on the board here have had the same problem: locating a new door gasket for pre-1976 Maytag dryers. Maytag made several variations on the door gaskets for different models over the years which can make getting the correct one tricky. Someone can probably post a reply with the correct part number for you.

Some have had luck finding parts at local appliance dealers that have been in business for a long time - or on Ebay. Good luck with your search.

It is too bad that Maytag (and now Whirlpool) didn't keep these gaskets in stock longer as it seems like a good number of these machines have survived.

Hi Kevin

I have the parts manual for your dryer out in the garage, but it's late here and I don't feel like going out there in the dark to look for it. However, I do have the parts manual for the 642C and many others scanned here on my computer and I'd be willing to bet the part number will be the same. If I'm wrong I'll correct the mistake in the morning, so here goes. I believe the original part number would have been 302400 (sometimes written as 3-2400). That part disappeared from the shelves a long long time ago, so your best bet will be the updated part number, 302448 (sometimes written as 3-2448). This updated part only disappeared a long time ago, as opposed to a long long time ago, so you stand a better chance of finding it than the original, though in truth, finding either one at this point should be considered a major stroke of luck. So if you should happen to find one, don't look around for a better price somewhere else, just buy it. You may never find another, and no, I'm not joking.

I can't wait for 3-D printing to get to a point that we can have these remade. Being the proud owner of a Maytag de-702 and a Westinghouse slant front laundromat, the search for a good door seal/boot has proven difficult. It took me over three years of searching to find a NOS Maytag seal. I'm still looking for one for the DE-700 owned by one of my best friends, Volvoguy, who got his machine not long after mine. After three years I'm still on the hunt for the Westinghouse, but judging by the response to the thread awhile back about possibly having them reproduced there about 30-40 others in the same boat.

Doesn't it stink when one part proves impossible to find?

Someone used a different one as a substitute a while back. You could message bluejay and see if it is holding up ok.

Early HOH Door Gaskets

Since the Early HOH door gaskets are getting increasingly scarce, is this something that could potentially be replicated like the seals that were done for the Westinghouses? Volvoguy87 and ClassicCaprice, and I all have the early HOH dryers and they all need that particular seal. I have one...

I just sent you the scanned pages of your dryer parts catalog. It seems that in addition to the part numbers I already gave you, Maytag is also calling for part number 312232 on machines made prior to 1960, so there's yet another number you might try.

Very awesome, I cannot thank you enough for those informational pages, you wouldn't happen to have a wiring schematic would you. I would also like to obtain this info for my 142 washer.

I think some of the wiring is not hooked up correctly, my ozone lamp does not light, but my drum lamp stays on even when the dryer is running. It will go out when you close the door and the motor is not running. I think someone might have switched up some wiring.

From what can be seen in the photo this looks like a nice one! Is the chrome trim really as clean as it looks or is the camera hiding the flaws? Either way, nice save.

Finally got it unloaded and a temporary spot in the garage. When I get some extra time I'm going to take it apart and give it a good checking over. I think I will relocate the vent back to the rear. The knock out plate was saved and attached to the rear panel. This dryer originally belonged to the grandmother of the fellows wife from whom I purchased the dryer. Somehow I think I could have worded that where it wasn't so complicated. Sorry.

Very nice, but that seal sure looks baked. And while it's a bummer that they used the side vent option, it's fantastic that they had the foresight to save the knockout. Most folks would have simply tossed that. I have the gas version of this dryer and it has what is possibly the prettiest dial ever used on a Maytag.

I have been searching for a couple of door seals, but have not had any luck. This one is worse than the dryer I am using.

I have a question on how the dial functions on this dryer

On the three auto cycles, is the dial stationary like on a DE806? I assume the dial moves towards "off" on the two timed cycles.

Also, how do you start the dryer? Push the knob in like the later model HOH dryers?
